Ten Gauge choke question

I am looking at a nice hammer gun 10ga 32" Damascus barrels in great condition. The seller has no way to measure the chokes. What he did was use a caliper to check the muzzles and came up with .760/.756 Would any of you big bore guys speculate how much choke this gun might have? My info says .779 is nominal 10ga bore diameter. These numbers does not add up to much choke? It has a return option but that gets expensive for a look in hand. thanks all SXS Ohio

IC or Lt. Mod it seems. Certainly not turkey or duck chokes though.

Bores on 10ga guns made before about 1892 have bores of .795-.796.

My 10 (1893) has a bore of .783 and choke of .740. Used inside calipers and digital mic. to measure bore, admittedly not the most precise, the choke dimension is precise though. That gives me .43 in both and it shoots tight. Hope this is of some help.

Without measuring the bores, the muzzle diameters can allow you to only speculate what the constriction may be. No way of knowing for sure. Oversized bores are not at all uncommon.

I have a 10 ga lifter circa late 1870' s and bores measure .802 and .805 chokes measure at .760. and actual patterns lead #6 at 35 yards show 90% patterns.

WOW! Nice George!

Does anyone have an accurate bore mic suitable for a 10 gauge they can send me on loan?

I have two sets of 10 ga. barrels I have never measured.

When things get back to a more normal state come up to Major Waldron's and shoot with us some evening, I am sure Scott would bring his 10ga bore mic and measure them for you.

Thanks Pete - please let me know when that happens.

Thanks all.....This is a nice side lever 10 that is hi condition for 2200.00 I have to pass due to the chokes being kinda open. It listed on G.I. I will call the seller and take the hold off. Kenny

Sidelever? What make gun Kenny? You have seen my WW Greener 12 ga sidelever, it was from 1875. I don't have any way to measure it, but my little choke gage says cyl/cyl .
