Getting Antsy...
Does anybody know if Addieville is open for small groups of shooters?
How about Scarborough? . |

Major Waldrons shotgun sports is closed with the exception that members with keys to the facility can use the range. Hoping we can open it up a little more soon since golf courses can open up in less than two weeks. |
I finally had the opportunity to get out. Met my father at Owen Station Sporting Clays in Delaware. It’s a very nice facility. The only one open within a couple hours of DC. Thankfully, Bull Run in Manassas reopens this week. It felt great to break clays with my father under bright blue skies. Lots of guys out shooting. Ran into a couple groups of Vintagers and several other sxs shooters. Great day. Can’t wait to get together for the Northern.

Re: Scarborough:
State of Maine Governor Mills this week issued her program for restarting the Maine economy. It will be in monthly stages. This is the link: https://www.maine.gov/covid19/restartingmaine This does not preclude business interests from seeking a clarification, waiver, variance or other accommodation, and some are doing so. |
Well that’s not good news for those of us who would cross state lines to individually shoot clay targets.
. |
A week from this coming Saturday we will be shooting clays in Mesquite NV. (May 16)
Y'all are welcome, if you can make it. |
Blue Ridge opened yesterday for the first time. Only 5 allowed in the club house at one time to sign up, then out the other door. Masks required to enter the club house. They only allowed 3 per squad on the course. The parking lot was pretty full but at no time was there a backup at any station. As we were getting our guns, the state police pulled up in front of the club house. I didn't hear what they were saying. They never got out of the car and about after 5 minutes, they left. I know some outdoor activities like golf courses, fishing, etc. were allowed to open yesterday but I'm not sure gun clubs were on that list. You just never know what will happen when the police are involved.

I can't imagine any logical reasoning that would allow golf clubs/courses to open up and not allow gun club/ranges to open.

Is the Guv a righty or lefty? May give you a clue
|
He claims to be one but is oft accused of being the other.

Dean I know for some reason you do not like Green Mountain but they are open for clays by reservation and pay by credit card for the 100 round course.

My only reason for not enjoying shooting there is on sunny days in the morning you are shooting directly into the sun for the whole first half of the course. . |
Elk Creek in Kentucky is open. I have gone several times recently and would be glad to meet anyone interested. Probably way too far for you New England folks. Glad to meet you all the same.
|
Dean, as a Rhode Islander please excuse the delay in my response. I was distracted with boat work all weekend(which I needed).
I am sure you saw that Addieville has posted they are closed on their website. I haven't called to check or heard anything different. A little further south by me in Rhode Island in South Kingstown is Peace Dale Shooting Preserve: https://www.pdshootingpreserve.com/ They are open and a great place. It's about about 10 minutes from me and I could hear them shooting all day. I have not gone there since the virus and restrictions, just being extra careful given my family situation. I have actually thought of trying to put together a Parker/SxS shoot there at some point. The owners are great and it is usually my go to place. Have fun! Jay |
Jay,
We have shot a Peace Dale. Very nice and worth the trip from LI. Let me know if you organize a shoot. John |
Dean, my gun club, Plymouth Rod and Gun has remained open throughout this pandemic. We shoot skeet wednesdays and sunday starting at 9 am. Trap on sat but there has been minimal interest in trap. We have 5 skeet fields and 2 trap. You are certainly welcome as my guest anytime. We are located directly across the street from the Plymouth airport. Just look for our sign. Any other pgca members are welcome.

Allen, thanks for your generosity.

Thank you Allen, one of my clubs board is meeting tonight about opening. The other is in a thither about it.

Now that I have my plane back on wheels I'll be opening my private clays course on some local fly-in only river bar here sometime very soon.
|
I envy your lifestyle.

I have been very lucky in that I can shoot at the house. Just one trap but it is set with a trip wire going out on each side for over 75 feet. Load the trap and pick your spot and walk into the wire. Lacie our border collie however does not like gun shots or even thunder so I cut a tractor trail down the back wood lot. The new range is down over a steep hill and far enough away so shots do not bother her. It has a better trap that throws at 70 mph at the start. Really wings them out there. Set up with trip wires too. Also has some steel plates for rifle and pistol. A 4 and 6 inch at 40...a 10 at 55 and a 12 at 100. They work well for offhand rifle and pistol practice. I will try and post some pictures. It is an easy and inexpensive option if you have a few acres. Next I may try and attach a thrower to the tractor bucket via forks and a pallet. One of these days you should stop by Dean if you are visiting your friend in Denmark. I would be up for a Scarborough or Green Mountain shoot if others decide to go.

Pictures of the new range and some guns. Last picture is the old range if I uploaded correctly

Nothing fancy but it meets the needs!

That’s great Bob - Thanks for the invitation, I believe I’ll take you up on your offer someday when all this quaantine business is behind us.
Thank You. . |
Nice M 95, Bob. What caliber?
|
It is a 405..the custom maple stock must have been done many years ago...the negative pitch and thick comb make it very pleasurable to shoot. It points very quickly too. Whoever set this up really knew what they were doing in my opinion. My eyes are not as good as they used they used to be but the open sights on it work well for me.
