Serial Number Mixup at Factory??
The delivery man brought me an anticipated present today. The firearm is exceptional in every way and after combing over every detail, I was very pleased. However, heart stopped a little when I saw the serial number mismatch. The 3rd digit on the trigger guard, underside stamp, and inlet are one digit off the barrel, forarm, and water table. Could this be a mixup at the factory? The trigger guard inlet marking looks more like 209 to the eye than it does in the picture where it looks like the third digit to be either a 9 or an 8. I can't imagine somebody making this mistake if they were attempting a forgery.
What do you think?? https://i.imgur.com/FPiLa7g.jpg https://i.imgur.com/m2S9dZR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vJp3F9P.jpg https://i.imgur.com/QjEv94p.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UuTZmT2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/4S4nVS4.jpg |
Obvious human error. Bros. Parker were making guns, not collectibles. My $.02 offered for free, of course.
I’ve seen this with other makers as well. Ps. Beautiful looking DHE! |
Nice Parker and I agree w/Josh.

The guns were made in a factory setting by humans. I have seen stamping errors like this before. One part has a digit that is one number off in some way. I have even seen parts from surrounding consecutive serial numbers put onto the wrong guns because they were built right next to each other.
Being that the number in question is in the Thousands spot, the chance of it being a part mixup from another D grade gun is out of the possibility, which means it is just human error. An engraver I know told me about a D grade Parker he recut once where the Dog had 5 legs. no joke. |

And take a close look at the serial number stamped into the forend iron... originally stamped as 208720 and then the 0 was over-stamped with the 8.
Yup - the underside of the trigger guard is where the problem began and then the engraver simply engraved the number that was stamped on the other side... . |
Thanks

I don't recall if the skeleton is stamped on the underside as well? I don't take them apart if I don't have a need. |
Yes. The ssbp is stamped on the backside. Down by the toe.
Along with the back of the forend tip, the latch body and the latch lever. |
I own a Parker the stamped number on the underside is correct, the engraved serial number on the bow is one digit off.

I saw one many years ago at a firehouse gun show - the TG sn varied by one digit higher than the rest of the gun's numbers. It was a very tired but sound and original VH 20 gauge. Lots of caveat emptor angst and kvetching by the great unwashed over it.

Not only in Meriden! My .410-bore Ithaca NID is 459135 everywhere except the stock wood which is stamped 457135.
|
My sporting clays hammer 16 is X654X, but both hammers are stamped X754X.

I suspect that there was one person in charge of numbering the soft metal parts before hardening with the exception of the trigger guard and wood. The person responsible must have been brilliant to make so few errors with such a repetitious job. After all Parkers were built long before the ISO 9000 quality standard.

I have a problem when reading numbers with several digits and then writing them I often will switch or change one. There is a name for it but I don't remember what it is. Perhaps some of these workers were afflicted with it also.

Are y'all makin fun of me? Yesterday I could not even spell gesundheit today I is one. That must be a real thing. Spell check accepted it.

I have a GH that has the engraved number exactly 1000 numbers off (112*** instead of 111***) from the stamped numbers. I figure it must have been the last one of the week.

Could Parker employees enjoy a little libation with their lunches?

In general industry, Coffee breaks didnt start catching on until around the turn of the century and it was a push to try and get workers to stop drinking beer on breaks.

Dean, if you have no plans for next Wed, come shoot some skeet with us at plymouth rod and gun. Club policy requires a mask.
|
You wouldn’t want to get any of that nasty gun smoke in your lungs now would you? This foolishness has to end sometime. Hopefully soon.
|
The elders at the club for reasons i do not quite understand want masks worn. No matter that we all observe social distancing on the field. The mask order is unnecessary in my view. In addition, these dam masks fog up your shooting glasses thus impacting your shooting. Just stupid. My hope is that Gov Baker will loosen up some of these draconian measures by the 18th.

If golf courses are allowed to open without restrictions, why not SC courses, Skeet fields, trap ranges, and rifle ranges?????
. |
I belong to 2 clubs one of which i am an officer off. One is opening Sat. restriced to members only and if you feel uncomfortable leave. The other that i am involved with the decision is still debating. Many have brought up fantastic scenarios they believe will take place upon opening and reality is unknown at this time. Sat. morning will tell the tale and then i will have fact to be able to make an informed decision for the other. Those who are uncomfortable will not come, those who do and follow the guidelines will be fine or not we will see.
|
So Dan, reopening is not at the discretion of the Governor but is left up to the owners of the shooting clubs??
. |
The 1 opening tomorrow looks at it as we are a private entity not a business open to the public. They have consulted with the police and i would think are ok with it. The other is still waiting to make a decision. I will be there tomorrow just to observe what takes place, will there be a big rush of members to the indoor range, to the outdoor ranges? Or will it be just a normal day with people giving each other space? Another club, rifle and pistol only, never closed and had no problem with the authorities and experienced much reduced use.
