I thought I would show a early crass model that I picked many years ago.

It's amazing how much the bolsters, the fences and the barrel breech sculpting on that Ithaca looks like a Lefever.

Nice gun, I have not came across one from that era personally.

Ken Descovich 04-09-2020 12:06 PM

I agree Dean there must be some collaboration or worker that worked for both companies at one time.

Harold Lee Pickens 04-09-2020 12:50 PM

I'm guessing that is a Grade 2?

Harrold it is a grade 3 12 gauge barrels are 30".

That Lefever-like profiling seems to be a time period thing, usually starting on Quality No. 3s, with serial numbers below 20000.

Nice Ithaca Crass

Hello Ken,
Thanks for showing your Ithaca, I have encountered 2 Ithaca’s with the sculpted breech balls and fences like yours, a grade 3 12 Gauge and a grade 4 10 Gauge. The grade 4 10 has some really unique engraving on the floor plate, different than i’ve Ever seen on an Ithaca.

Ithaca produced some beautifully engraved guns during the Crass era in my opinion,

I can still remember where I picked this gun up it was at a yard sale that the the lake Tahoe fire department on the border of california and nevada was putting on for funds those were the good days.

Very cool gun, I've never seen one. I'm big on the Flues, own 6 of them. These old Ithacas are very underated. They are works of art!

It even has a Parker style dolls head. Very nice gun!

Harold Lee Pickens 04-11-2020 10:03 PM

I had a nice grade 3 Lewis class Ithaca with chain-link Damascus. Now I wish I'd never sold it.

Here is a Crass which was made in 1898. The extra screw on the side is due to this gun having ejectors. It is a grade 6.

Great engraving! I'd probably find myself looking at it in the field more than shooting shoot it. It's a beautiful piece of our past.

lovely gun....your right not a gun to go hunting with..you will be looking at the gun and not looking for game...nice... charlie

Chris Robenalt 04-12-2020 03:06 PM

I'll still shoot them Charlie, I just admire them while hunting with them. I can't begin to tell you how many birds I've missed because of looking at the gun and not the sky!
