DH 32"/28 bore Duck gun
1 Attachment(s)
There's an active thread on the Fox Collectors members forum re: period duck hunting with a 20 bore, and that flushed out some 28-gauge Duck gun info dated 1912.
Posted here for info is this inset by a CA small bore cult duck man showing 40 yard pattern efficiency with a "Special" Parker DH 28 bore/32 incher. 81% pattern with 11/16 ounce of #7 chilled shot and 3/8" penetration in dry pine at that distance. |
I sure wish there were pictures of this amazing Parker!

Title says 28ga, text says 20. which is it?
|
Edgar, the 1st sentence say "twenty eight bore"???

When I read the title of the thread I initially thought it was a 32" DH 28 gauge for sale. My pulse is nearly back to normal now. Reggie is probably still down :)
That is quite an impressive pattern, gun as well I am sure. |
Randy that has me :rotf:

And here's the guy and the gun that did it - notice the comparison between Hedderly's 32" 28 ga. DHE barrels and his overall height, porch mount notwithstanding. Easily explains his specified LOP in his custom-ordered Parkers as between 15 1/4 and 15 5/8 inches - what they refer to in Kansas & other parts of the midwest as, "a long drink of water". |
Selling ad copy for your newspaper has its advantages.

Selby cartridges seem to have been the darling of the CA small bore duck men. Advert dates to September 1910.

Harry and I were discussing whether 28 gauges would work for duck hunting. This is interesting.

They work very well Mills as long as you pick your shots and keep them under 35 yds. They really shine when you are gunning for woodies or teal. Those birds demand a quick handling gun. |
