Ready and no where to go!

Winters are long here in upper Michigan and I think it’s reloading season. Well I’m ready with no where to go

Rich Anderson 03-18-2020 04:22 PM

Maybe I'll come up and help you lighten the load. Seriously I have done the same thing with 16ga and 20ga now I'm loading rifle shells just in case I have to defend our TP reserves:rotf:

Richard Flanders 03-18-2020 04:29 PM

Looks like my basement.

Jay Baskette 03-18-2020 04:33 PM

I suspect Bill Grill likes 20 gauges, by all of the yellow shell casings shown. My favorite gauge also.

Bill's photo got me thinking. I also have an array of 5-gallon buckets full of cartridges. And I even thought that I ought to head out to the clays range this week to use some up and enjoy myself. Then a series of disquieting thoughts hit me:

I will have to pick up a trap card from the office to slip into the control box at each station. Who knows what germs will be on that card?

Then I will have to push a few buttons at each station to throw targets. Who knows what germs will be on those buttons?

For that matter, who know what germs will be on the door handle to the clubhouse?

THEN I thought I could get around all that by wearing latex gloves. I tried some on. Then realized that they remove all tactile sensation from handling my gun. And they look stupid.

I finally decided to wait however long it takes until this COVID-19 thing is over. It would be no fun otherwise. Maybe even worse.

Just my thoughts here in social isolation...

CraigThompson 03-18-2020 07:48 PM

I’m trying to change airline tickets that have already been cancelled by the airline to perhaps the last week of September until late October and today the Boss tells me they’re talking about keeping Manila shut down for SIX MONTHS ! I can stand missing archery season but I don’t wish to miss the ML and or rifle season .

Texans

Some Texans would probably suggest you are a little short on 20 gauge ammunition.

You missed one:

You could have been exposed to the virus and unknowingly be the carrier that infects the place.

John Campbell 03-19-2020 09:29 AM

You're right. My wife still thinks I'm infectious.

Harold Lee Pickens 03-19-2020 11:38 AM

Local sporting clays range, Hunting Hills, just closed down. Was going to shoot there with Brett Hoops this weekend.
Bill, where are you located in the UP? I stay just south of Sagola for 2 weeks/year--want to go for 3 this year. Havent missed a season up there since 1986.

Brian Dudley 03-19-2020 02:37 PM

Tell me about it. I dropped a lot of money on new show materials for the upcoming year. New table covers, monogrammed shirts, gun display racks.

And no shows to take them to...

Bill Murphy 03-19-2020 03:49 PM

Yup, my contract with Boss and Purdey are belly up, and the bill for the table covers and free hand outs must be paid.

America is strong and we Americans are pretty resilient. We'll get through this and recover well. That's just what we Americans do.

Craig Larter 03-19-2020 04:18 PM

Brian this will pass and hopefully small businesses have enough resources and or cash flow to survive during difficult times. I will do my best to support businesses that have taken care of me. If any of the craftsmen that support our hobby need work I am sure many of us would step up with billable projects.

CraigThompson 03-19-2020 04:25 PM

Well my thoughts of gloom have cleared a good bit . I spent the entire night last night waiting for and talking to ticket agents . Got Delta first and changed my tickets to the South Pacific for September into October and it only took three hours . Then I FINALLY got Orbitz/Expedia on the line and took care of all the hotel reservations in the Philippines as well as the domestic flights . Then I figured why not and got after the Sanford NC reservations . Low and behold it all seems taken care of and only took about seven hours total . This afternoon I was able to get a refund from the parking garage close to Dulles I was going to use as well as a refund for the golf cart in NC . My opinion of humanity has gotten slightly better after all this

God willing The Great Northern is still a go!

Here is the new protocol for one of my two clubs, Minuteman Sportsmens Club in Burlington, Massachusetts. It may be useful as a template in crafting adaptive rules for your own clubs:

Member Guidelines

If you have ANY symptoms that could be related to the Coronavirus or if you think you have been exposed to someone who has the virus; DO NOT come to the club!

While you are at the cub, please do the following:
• Follow social distancing guidelines, keep at least six feet away from others.

• Minimize use of the clubhouse to the greatest degree possible and do not gather in groups of more than 10. To reinforce this concept the number of tables in the clubhouse has been reduced and only 3 chairs will be at each table.

• Please use credit/debit cards for payment at the Cage. Cash should be the payment of last resort.

• While at the club, frequently wash/disinfect your hands according to CDC guidelines.

• Members will not be allowed in the cage to shop for ammo. Club staff will retrieve desired loads for you.
•
We will not be ordering any food until further notice.

Candy and coffee will not be available.

Employee Guidelines

If you have ANY symptoms that could be related to the Coronavirus or if you believe that you were exposed to anyone who has the virus; DO NOT come to work.

• Follow social distancing guidelines to the greatest degree possible.

• Wash/disinfect your hands often.

--Disinfection Procedures--
• Prior to opening, wipe down all tables, counters, door handles, railings, touch points in rest rooms, vending machine buttons, etc. Wipe down tables immediately following use. Wipe down other touch points as activity warrants.
•
• The cage area, credit card terminal and related computer equipment needs to be wiped down with disinfectant at frequent intervals.

• Prior to opening, wipe down portable equipment utilized by members. That includes 5-Stand controllers, skeet solo controllers, Sporting Clays cart handles, golf cart touch points, etc. Immediately upon return, the aforementioned items are to be wiped down. Club guns loaned to members need to wiped down prior to issuance and wiped again upon return.

• Prior to opening, wipe down all Long Range control units and release cord buttons. On Trap fields, wipe down microphone touch points. Additional wipe downs will be done periodically as activity warrants.

Craig, not to pry, but are you sure you can return to the states from the Phillipines within the next couple of years or at least a reasonable time?

Russell E. Cleary 03-23-2020 03:42 PM

The protocols I list on post #17 permitting shooting are moot.

The Massachusetts Governor has shut down the Club, along with all businesses in the State not deemed essential, at least until April 8th.

Mills Morrison 03-23-2020 03:44 PM

The Georgia governor is having a press conference at 5. I bet many governors will follow suit shortly.

People keep saying "it is going to get worse before it gets better." Well, bring on the worse, I am ready for it to get better

No I’m not for the short answer . But for the flight from Dulles to Manila and back my only choice was to rebook before 9/19/20 or loose it as the flight was non refundable and needed to be rebooked for use within one year of when it initially was purchased . As I typically purchase tickets within a month of when I return and last year I got home in late August and of course bought tickets 9/19/19 .

Mills Morrison 03-25-2020 11:10 AM

Harry and I are supposed to go to Namibia to shoot a zebra in June. That trip is on life support, as you might guess. Fortunately, we got travel insurance.

I assume if you’re unable to go the PH will honor your trip at a later date ?

Mills Morrison 03-25-2020 01:53 PM

I assume so. We will probably tell them to put us down for same time next year. It is just we were looking forward to going this year.

allen newell 03-25-2020 02:05 PM

Joy and I got out of Kenya and Tanzania just before all hell broke loose with getting back home.

I feel for you with the “looking forward to it” part ! If I’d been able to leave Monday I’d be in Cagayan de Oro playing with the grandson right now . Well that is if I can pry him away from his tablet that’s loaded with PC games  From the time I was about 19 until I was 46 each year my vacations were used for Steam Shows , skeet/trap shoots or hunting trips . But for the last twelve years my vacations have all been going to the Philippines, never thought I’d enjoy just going somewhere and relaxing for a month or so but I sure enjoy it now !!!

CraigThompson 03-25-2020 06:07 PM

I’ve got a dog/horse trainer friend that’s chomping at the bit to go to South Africa . Bought himself a Ruger 77RSC in 458 Win Mag because he wants to get a buff buff . He has a bunch of South African jockey friends that have hooked him up with some deal . Anyway “I think” he’s still planning to go there in September .
