my first old parker

i managed to buy my first old parker past weekend. 2nd one i now own. first was the DHE repro. this is an 1922 v grade . 12 gauge. 30 inch bbls. dt. extractors. has been restocked by someone with btfa and pow grip. checkered butt. nice re stock, but past ownership has been hard on it. the gun is a shooter in my book. no case color left and barrells have more brown than blue showing. choked .010 and 038. # 2 frame with # 4 weight barrells. weighs 8lb 2 oz with my postal scale. will need some care at some point for lock up, mostly centered. still tight even without forearm attached. will have pix at some point. prob later tomorrow. i'm in process of ordering a letter by the club.
yeah. !
my first project parker...

Congrats and welcome to the "slippery slope" as they say.

Your “#4 weight barrels” is a term not used on Parker Brothers shotguns. The rt. barrel flat is stamped with the weight of the barrels before striking or ‘pre-struck weight’ - what is yours stamped with? Being a 2-frame I suspect 4 lbs. and some ounces (oz. in super-script).

Sorry dean. I was afraid I had just enough knowledge to be dangerous. Looks like I'm there. I'm trying..barrel markings are as follows. J.g inside circle .lower markings v inside circle. HT over too of A. Numeral 4 no circle. No other marks. .thanks for helping me with our terms..Matt k

Hope these pix come thru. I'm thinking I will prob get barrels re blued by someone in the know. Pretty happy with this purchase. After weighing th VH it is 6oz lighter then my rbl 12. Nice shooting clays configuration for my taste. Since it's been pre tinkered I won't feel bad about any upgrades.

4 it is . Never say never

I see the 4. Nevertheless, that represents 4 lbs., 0 ounces. Four pounds... not "# 4 weight barrells". Call me a nit-picker... :rotf:

That would be a wonderful doubles trap gun. Great find.

John Davis 01-26-2020 06:49 PM

What are the drop measurements? Looking back over your description, I believe some one modified this gun intentionally for doubles trap.

matt koepnick 01-31-2020 09:39 PM

Hey john.just saw this . Combo gauge says 1 3/8 DAC. 2 3/8 DAH. 3/16 cast for rh shooter. 14 1/4 lop.. with my trusty slip on leather pad it is about as good as it gets for clays .shot well above my usual mediocre average. Guess I should have been looking at these old guns a long time ago. .

Nice gun Matt! The originals just "feel" better. BUT, be careful, they're just like potato chips.......all of us started with just one.

It looks like 2 on the lug for frame size. Also looks like an excellent stocking job. Fit around the receiver looks excellent and the wood is gorgeous.
