The Birthday Trip.....
I've booked myself a birthday trip to Argentina. Over the next several weeks I will be pulling items out of "The Vault" that I hate to sell but at 50 years old I think one last adventure is more important. Watch the Memorabilia Page for my postings, the first two just hit a minute ago. Your gain is my loss as far as the money goes!
50 ? One last adventure  What the heck I’ll be 59 this year and I HOPE I have quite a few adventures left
A man never knows, a half century has seemed pretty short.....
46 here and much too young to feel this old . . .
Destry, Make sure you spend time in Buenos Aires and go to a few steak places. Julia and I went to La Chacra and recommend it. |
My eyeglass prescription is reaching Coke Bottle proportions and my ears ring so loud I can't hear shit anymore. But I'm dieting in preparation for the trip, I've lost 25 pounds since June already. I'm pushing for 50 pounds by the time I leave.
Does that mean no more hamburgers for us at Miller's bar? Say it's not so!
I'll make an exception for Millers!
Mills,
I'm going to try to have an evening in town before we leave out for our 10 hour drive to the Lodge. I'm thinking of going to El Imparcial, it's the oldest restaurant in the city. |
I will take the Swamp Angel when you list her!
List her? Shit man, she's going to Argentina.
:rotf:

Let us know about your experience in taking your own gun on the trip. Who is your outfitter?
I've taken my own guns everywhere I ever went.
Ramsey Russell He's a close friend of a close friend and says this place is where he wants his ashes scattered. It's so good they don't even feed it, all natural marsh, all natural hunting, waterfowl only. The one problem, it's 10 hours from the airport in a van IF the roads are dry. |
Destry,
Check on the guns, I did a stag hunt about five years ago, and the outfitter discouraged from trying to bring our own. Delays in airport, stories of guns held up, etc. I shot one from the outfitter. Not my preference but didn't want the hassle. |
Ramsey said no problem, particularly with break open guns. I think you've just gotta know who to slip $20 to, the entire country runs on graft.
I've been to Argentina twice, and took my gun both times. I wouldn't go if I had to shoot rental jammamatics. That's just me though.

I took my gun about 10-12 years ago, but I understand that it has become more complicated or sketchy to take your own gun. I'd sure make sure the gun was well insured
Agreed. I took a Beretta 687 SP II Sporting 20 ga. both trips. It could be replaced with no problem if lost. I cannot imagine a better gun for high volume doves. Not one hiccup, with about 9000 shells digested in 16 shoots. One shell every 6.7 seconds of time on the field.

Mine is a Beretta 20 Gauge Silver Pigeon. Worked perfectly, and is still tight as new.
Once you trim down to fighting weight you'll be good for another 20 years or more. I am 87 and have hunted for 78 years straight except for the time I was on "vacation" in Korea in 1952. I did miss this last year from knee problems but doing physical therapy so I can get out again with my sons and grandsons next year.
I've been to Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay. It's worth the extra flying to get to Argentina. Buenos Aires may be my favorite big city in the world
I'm not going if I can't have my own guns, it's that simple. I'm not worried about high volume shooting, this is a waterfowl only trip. Likely four or six boxes a day. I've been before, about 8 or 9 years ago.

A bar had on their sign "January 1 and I drove very slowly by the gym. Baby steps. "
Hope your trip starts smoother than ours. After 3 days of sight seeing in Buenos Aires here I sit in the domestic airport awaiting the flight to Cordoba. Problem is the entire airport is shut down to apparently some type of equipment failure.:cuss:
I had a trip down there completely ruined by a volcanic eruption. Lost every dime other than the $1000 the outfitter refunded. I told myself I'd never go again after that fiasco but here we are....
Good luck! |
Flight now cancelled. Now booked on a 5:00PM flight. There goes one day at the hunting lodge. BP seems to be escalating.
That stinks

News media is everywhere. First it was equipment failure but now it seems to be associated with a pilot strike last Friday. Breathe, just breathe.........
How's it going?
After an 8 hour delay we finally made it to the Guayascate Lodge and I am speechless. This place is incredible. I will post some pics at some point but right now I have an Oliva and a couple fingers of Glenmorangie calling me. Long day.
Randy, I went on youtube to look at your lodge. It took me more than an hour of looking and I went back again this morning. You're a lucky guy.
Having a great time. Unbelievable is the word. I will report more when I get back. Also Destry maybe we can get together for a call and discuss your trip and hopefully cancellation planning that you never need.
Glad you made it
