2020 Southern SXS April 23-26

4 Attachment(s)
The 21st Annual Spring Southern Side by Side Classic will take place on April 23-26, 2020 (Thursday to Sunday), at Deep River Sporting Clays and Shooting School! PGCA will hold its annual meeting on Friday evening, April 24, at the Carolina Trace Country Club. The Third Annual American Classics Youth Shoot will take place on Saturday. Also, Team Parker will line up once again against Team L. C. Smith for the 17th Annual Smith-Parker Challenge and it is never too early to begin practicing and deciding which gun(s) you will take. After three years of Parker victories, I hear the L.C. Smith shooters are getting restless and practicing extra hard to take back the trophy! We need some crack shooters to join Team Parker to beat Team L.C. Smith again in the Parker Smith Challenge. We need you to bring your hammer guns as well to get the hammer gun trophy where it belongs in Team Parker’s hands. There will be plenty of shooting and lots of guns and shooting merchandise in the tents to add to your collection too. Stay tuned for further announcements in Parker Pages and on the Parker forum. Also, you can check out www.southernsidebyside.com/the-spring-classic for information on vendors, sponsors and non-Parker related events.

As of about a week ago at the Hampton it was not set up. I was advised to make my reservation and then when the block was set up I would be added to that and receive the block rate.

Tom Wooden 01-03-2020 10:37 AM

I will be contacting the Hampton Inn today to set up the room block which typically takes them a couple of days to set up. I will post it to this thread when it complete.

You're gonna like it. It's the best IMO.

Mills Morrison 01-09-2020 01:44 PM

I came once and have come back every year since, just like a lot of our regular attendees.

It is addictive.

Rich Anderson 01-10-2020 05:28 PM

I love the Southern best dam gun show there is. My goal is to come, see and remain financially intact:whistle:. I did it last year for the first time:shock:

Bill Murphy 01-10-2020 05:39 PM

I'm a first year attendee, but have missed a year or three along the line. I hope to get back this year to defend my first year .410 event win.

matt koepnick 01-10-2020 06:59 PM

Prob the best advice I've heard..have fun and come back solvent.. on the flip side I've been told over and over " being all the moola you have.then borrow some more".. from a couple of locals I shoot with who have been before. Win- win what ever way it works out..

Rich Anderson 01-11-2020 08:10 AM

I have acquired some very nice guns at the Southern. I have also acquired a home equity loan:eek:

Mills Morrison 01-11-2020 08:33 AM

I did not get paid for doing sign ups for Parker Smith, but the money I saved by staying out of the tents was huge

Last year was bad and I didn't even get a gun. Julia is coming this year so watch out and don't nobody extend her any credit

I booked my room with them a couple of days ago. The block of rooms was available then.

allen newell 01-18-2020 08:37 PM

I will have a DHE down there for sale via Robin Hollow

Rick Roemer 01-18-2020 09:28 PM

Hi, I plan to come to the Southern this year for the first time. I attended Hausmann’s last year and had a great time. Is the Southern open for anyone to shoot clays or only if you are shooting in one of the published competitions? I can’t find this info in the available literature. Thx

Rick Losey 01-18-2020 09:32 PM

you can shoot outside the team competition

Rich Anderson 01-19-2020 11:41 AM

Rick if you want to shoot come shoot with us at nearby Drakes Landing. We will shoot there in the mornings then go to Deep River and look at guns. It's a great place to shoot no waiting in lines with two 100 bird sporting clays courses. A lot less expensive also.

Rick Roemer 01-19-2020 12:10 PM

Hey thank you for the offer. I will definitely consider this. I assume Drakes is close?

Rich Anderson 01-19-2020 12:16 PM

yes it is and it's a great place to shoot. There will be shooters there from Parker, Fox and LC Smith.

Brian Dudley 01-19-2020 01:29 PM

If you are attending the southern, then shoot the southern and support the event/venue.

Rich Anderson 01-19-2020 01:43 PM

I drive 13 hours to get there and I'm not about to stand in line station after station and pay $1 a target or wait all day to shoot one round of five stand. For me the Southern is a gun show pure and simple. Over 4 days I can easily shoot 500 targets at Drakes for far less than three rounds at Deep River.

Brian Dudley 01-19-2020 02:10 PM

$1 a target is standard cost for pretty much any of these SxS specific events.

keavin nelson 01-20-2020 03:24 PM

I am planning on attending, first for me. Wondering if there is anyone else from Eastern Pa. planning on going, perhaps share the ride.

John Davis 01-20-2020 05:06 PM

Keavin, hope you are planning on attending the PGCA Annual meeting on Friday night as well.

Mills Morrison 01-20-2020 05:14 PM

Yes. For those who have always wanted to attend the Southern and/or an annual meeting, here is your chance to attend both.

I'm sorry Brian but I have to disagree, I shot the Southern for many years, same targets, long, long lines, we got tried of it and went to Drakes great targets two courses super nice people...... What is not to like, we spend many hours at the Southern in the vendors tent. But I'm sorry I don't want to shoot similar targets and wait forever when I can shoot to great courses and still support the Southern in the vendors tents. Which is where Bill makes his some or most of his money. So let's agree to disagree. Eric

Rick Roemer 01-27-2020 09:35 PM

Hi all. I just made a room reservation and the rate is about $10 higher than was listed here. Receptionist said a manager made a deal without checking with the boss. Either way, just FYI

john pulis 01-28-2020 02:16 PM

The Long Island boys are going, driving. Where is Drakes relative to Deep River?

Russell E. Cleary 01-30-2020 10:46 AM

Rooms at the Hampton Inn for the Southern Side-by-Side dates are selling out fast.

I just reserved for Thursday through Saturday night the last room available from the PGCA discounted-price block.

More rooms are available, but at the regular rates and the rooms are not of the "standard" description that constituted the PGCA block.

I talked with Ashley, the Front Desk Manager, at 919-775-2000. She was very pleasant to deal with and seemed to have good situational awareness.

steve bryan 01-30-2020 04:33 PM

Drakes is about 25 miles east from Deep River

Wasn’t difficult for me to save money when I went thru the tents the loan year I’ve visited . Everything in the tents I saw that I liked I couldn’t afford so problem solved :rotf:

Mills Morrison 01-31-2020 03:20 AM

First year we went was heavy. Then we decide to leave the checkbook at home but then people extend us credit. Now I just plan for May to be payback month. A lot of prices are high but there are plenty of deals to be had as well

Only things I saw I would really have liked to had that year were the dealer from Florida’s FIVE VH/VHE 410’s anywhere from 25-40 G’s and at Galazan’s the J. Cliff Green set that I’m sure he was thinking 250-300 G’s . But then I’ve always had champagne taste and a not even beer budget :rotf:

Craig Larter 02-07-2020 06:29 PM

Got my room at the Hampton, traveling with Mark Kircher, Rick Simmonds and Louis Parker, the upstate NY contingent. I'm sure Brian Dudley a fellow Apple Knocker and maybe others from snow country will attend. How about the people's choice be CEP and show guns as published in the Parker Story. Louis just added a CEP gun to his collection and I added a couple of Show Gun. Just say'n.

I sure am hating that I am missing this event in 2020! I will hate it more if I miss any long barreled small bores.

No worries Reggie, I won't let any get away :rotf:
