I know nothing about 8 gauge Parkers, but this one is priced a lot less than others I have seen.

I seen this gun earlier , I was wondering what was the deal with the knot in the buttstock ? Doesnt seem like a imperfection that Parker would overlook ? |
I too scratch my head at $13k being way below normal pricing for an 8g. I think in the current market it may be right about a good retail number for a fluid steel barreled graded gun. Since usually what I see is that a lower grade composite barreled gun will isually be in the $6-8k range.
These guns are very difficult to determine the market on now. A lot of heavy hitters in big bore collecting have passed on and sales show it. All of Middlebrook’s guns were sold over the course of 2 or 3 auctions last year and a lot of the guns sold for less that one may have expected. |

Think the guy I'm thinking of lived in MD or PA and died 3 or 4 years ago . |
Daryl Middlebrook. He lived in Central NY. He passed about 2 years ago.
He was into Big Bore guns in quite a way. I do not think he was an LC Smith guy though. |
Craig, your guy is a different guy. There are still a few big bore guys alive, but the fellow you are thinking about is surely not with us any longer. We are keeling over at a great rate.

Yup, we know who you're referring to, but it was not Daryl Middlebrook.

Daryl and Bernie were two wonderful guys. I miss both of them a lot.

Bernie had a bunch of 8s and would pay whatever it took to get one he wanted. Both he and Daryl helped me on my 8 gauge quest (along with Bill)
|
Daryl Middlebrook was a close friend, I miss wintering in Florida with him, and weekly trips to the Local Sheriffs range for skeet, He was indeed a big bore guy and he had some very interesting guns, I believe he had a C grade 10 gauge with Titanic barrels book did not show any made but he had one! He also had a 4 bore and I believe a 2 or 3 bore, and yes his guns did sell a little below what he paid, but as all of us do he had the pleasure of handling and admiring his collection, I will have a Gin and Tonic for you this evening my friend! If you are in this to make money, you are in it for the wrong reason.

The double was sold at auction not long after the owner had it . I used to have a picture of a 2 bore sxs jone underlever shotgun . I wish I could have talked to some of these big bore shotguns guys before they passed . |
I talked to both, but only briefly. Wish I could have talked to them more.

Bernie displayed at the Vintagers at Pintail Point if memory serves me correct. A wonderful collection of Elsie 8's.
I have had a strong attraction to a 8 bore but have always turned away for reasons of cost, ammo availability and they can't legally be used for ducks. I like to hunt and shoot my guns. A DH 8 would be a very cool gun to own if only they were a little more practical. I plan to ask the rst folks at the Vintagers if they will offer ammo in the near future. Ammo availability may tip me over and make me reconsider the big 8. |
They are still legal for turkeys in some states and I am thinking about using mine for a deer drive. RST told me they are working on 8 gauge shells

I was thinking it would be interesting to use the 8 ga for coyote . Predator hunting doesnt really seem to be a thing here , but alot of hunters out in the midwest use the 10 and 12 gauges for coyotes . |
Would love to use the 8 on coyotes.
|
a load of bb s in the 8 gauge would dispatch a coyote in a heartbeat....in a full choke gun i would think it to take a coyote at 60 yards easily.....charlie
|
I shot a Fox at about 50 yards with steel BBs in my AYA ten from an upstairs window. He dropped like a rock, but I gave him a second shot in case he revived while I was coming downstairs. Our RSA has a bait pole with space for a dead duck at the top, but set out at a range for a rifle shot, not a shotgun shot. I'm not sure what the range limit is for a shotgun against a fox or a coyote. However, I have shot 60 yard patterns with a tightly bored Fox with 1 1/4 ounces of lead #4s that would have put a bunch shot into a fox.
|
Well, if we’re to believe WHF, a 16 gauge Parker T/A hammer gun can do it at extreme range.

Im curious to see what shot sizes RST is going to offer in their 8 ga loads . |

Out of curiosity I call the shop listing the gun that was the subject of this topic. It is a 36" gun but the stock dimensions are 2 1/8"DAC x 4" DAH. They could not measure the bore, chokes or chambers. That would be a hard gun to shoot with those dimensions.
