Proof marks

Bernardelli choke marks need help because I just can't remember. One+ and three +++ Is that imp/cyl and full?Thankks. Gerald.

John Dallas 06-14-2019 10:08 PM

That matches the Browning system markings

Gerald McPherson 06-14-2019 10:16 PM

Thanks. I think Brownings Imp/cyl is **- and full is * .

John Dallas 06-14-2019 10:22 PM

I've sold my Browning book, so this is from the net:

* designates full choke (F).

*- designates improved modified choke (IM).

** designates modified choke (M).

**- designates improved cylinder choke (IC).

**$ designates skeet (SK).

This is hollowell's reference on choke markings http://www.hallowellco.com/choke_chart.htm.

Based on this, your chokes are mod and full.

Browning choke stamps

I have a Browning 3 bbl set that belonged to a USA Skeet team member with Bob Rodale that has cylinder chokes and the bbls are marked with ***. Just a bit of FYI.

Tom, Bob Rodale is a voice from the past. I won my first and only Silver Medal in International (Olympic) skeet at a Bob Rodale memorial shoot a few years ago. Well, maybe more than a few. Who was the owner of your Browning?

Tom Kidd 06-21-2019 07:30 PM

Clint Swingle. I ended up with his guns. He was a good friend and rarely missed a grouse if he could see it.(sometimes, I swear, got them when he couldn't) I used to shoot for him at the Retriever trials. Bob was a good friend as well, and died way too soon. Problem with being in my 79th year, is that I have outlived nearly all of my close friends and mentors. Getting Old Sux, so I am going to hit the Century mark, that'll teach'em.

Go for it Tom!

My Sidekicks

[B]Good Morning Dean,

Here are photos of my current Sidekicks. Ice, the pointing Lab, will be 13 on the 6th of July and still can hunt easy cover for an hour or two.(about the same as the old man) The 'kid' will be 5 on the 7th. She is a 'Rescue' and acts like a Chessy, but has a phenomenal nose that luckily is hooked to her always alert think tank. I can whoa her on stupid pen raised birds, but not on grouse. Maybe they smell different, or she figures she has worked her butt off to get one close and it is hers. She is an easy read, so I am always ready to miss with excuse at hand. Sometimes I think dogs may be the Big Guy's best gift to mankind??

Dean Romig 06-22-2019 09:24 AM

I had a chocolate lab that had a phenomenal nose. Unfortunately she was notoriously gun-shy.
