Images of the Washburn A1S

Thought some of you might enjoy seeing some additional pics of this gun. It was recently discussed in another thread with some speculation as to who did the work. After some research and comparison alongside side some of Dick Washburns other work there seems to be little doubt that he did the work here as well.

Never thought of it as a Mossberg upgrade. I would say never but I didn't fully research that possibility :)

Grip Cap Insert

This gun was missing the insert for the grip cap so I sent the gunsmith who has it a photo of what I had in mind which he in turn provided to the engraver. A few days ago he sent me a pic of the final product. I think I'm gonna like it.

Ready for the course

After a few months this one has finally come home. She required some work including being put back on face which was greatly assisted by replacing the roll pin. The LOP was adjusted and a Silvers pad added as well as taking the comb down and blending the finish in. There was also the missing insert in the grip cap which is now in place. The fit seems to be quite well now and I will get her on the course soon enough. Overall I am quite pleased with the final product.

What a wonderful gun. I'm truly green with envy.

Phil Yearout 12-04-2019 07:12 PM

Karl Ferguson 12-04-2019 08:34 PM

Awesome gun Randy ...

Thank you for sharing, what a beautiful piece of gun history.

Beautiful results! I am assuming the barrels are 32"?

Dean Romig 12-05-2019 06:53 AM

Certainly one of the nicest examples I’ve seen.

That’s a beautiful piece of cottonwood on that gun

Reggie that would be a correct assumption. 32" VR.

Chuck Bishop 12-05-2019 09:59 AM

Congratulations Randy!

Thanks Russ, I actually thought about that but I liked that insert just the way it was. Actually the photos do not do that insert justice, it looks better in person on the gun.

If ever there was a gun too pretty to shoot it would be that one. Can we see a pic of the whole gun or would that be too much for mortal eyes?

Here ya go Mike. BTW none of them are to pretty to shoot are they ?

Mike Franzen 12-15-2019 05:48 PM

You’re very fortunate to have one of Washburn’s upgrades.

Harry Collins 12-16-2019 10:04 AM

Are you shooting at Elk Creek Wednesday? If so please bring this Parker.

Randy G Roberts 12-16-2019 10:24 AM

Hey Harry. I am on the proverbial fence with Elk Creek. If I do make it I will certainly bring it.

Harry Collins 12-16-2019 11:13 AM

Oops! I'm out for Wednesday. The one who must be obeyed has a cracked tibia and is trying to get a second opinion and needs me to chauffeur. I gave her my opinion which was greeted in typical red headed fashion.

I knew Dick when I live in Minnesota. When he sold his house all of the pipes in the basement were engraved. He self taught himself to engrave and his work looks like the old master engravers works, I have seen much of his work up close, and you had better have a real good set of glasses not to be fooled. He never upgraded guns to differentgrades, he did it for the love of doing them!
