You know it's finally Spring when...

Redwing blackbirds showed up earlier this past week. Buzzards were sighted two days ago...and the best sign of Spring at our house -- just heard a woodcock peenting in the backyard.

Time to get the puppy back in the field.

Anyone else finding flight birds?

My setter pointed the first one this morning. Strong SW wind last night has moved birds.

Our killdeer were back on Tuesday, turkey vultures showed up on Thursday, and some of the smaller non-mallard ducks that we get every Spring were seen yesterday. Definitely a good sign!

The Sandhill cranes are returning, love to hear their calls, it tells me spring is coming.......

We have three hooded mergansers (1 male, 2 females), and 2 ring-necked ducks (male and female) hanging out on the pond this morning.

Thankfully, nature renews herself every season...and tugs us along with her.

In addition to the red-wing blackbirds and the pop-up crocus on the lawn and in the flower gardens, I wait for the almost faint buzzing "peent" of woodcock almost inaudible above the cacophony of spring peepers along the edges of maple swamps... robins and Eastern Bluebirds have been here all winter.

I can no longer ignore the dog crap in the back yard. Three grocery bags and I’m not done yet.

Garry L Gordon 03-17-2019 03:42 PM

I can relate to this one, but I view it as a sign of my laziness more than Spring (since I can find this condition at any season...unfortunately). :)

How was the show Kevin?

Kevin McCormack 03-18-2019 07:22 AM

Consensus of most of the vendors was that overall attendance was down this year, which is odd given the unusually temperate weather (much colder Sat. & Sun. but no rain, sleet or snow, which this show is notorious for in past years). I would say attendance was between 1/2 and 3/4 what it normally is in good-weather years.
