Very nice ! RIA acquisitions ?
Yep. Rock Island
You are killing me Mills!
Those are beauties...congrats!
two?
planning on driven quail? |
Ha! Maybe for the pheasant tower shoot one of our friends puts on. I don't think quail would "drive" very well.
They look similar and are pretty close in serial number range, but are different. The better of the two appears all original parts restored. 28" barrels IM/IM. About 6.8 lbs. The other has a smaller stock that appears to be from a later 0 frame gun. Barrels are cut to 26" so no choke basically. The fore end checkering on the 26" one looks like it was done by a drunk beaver. Of the two though, the 26" handles better, and is about 6.3 lbs. It should be great on Woodcock

Very nice Mills!!
Mills, if you weren't such a great guy, I'd be really jealous. but congats!!
I love my little GH 16 O frame damascus, even with its 27" (cut) barrells |
Saw your post on Facebook. Very nice
I can relate to that "Drunk Beaver" checkering work but mine was from my first checkering work on a Fox Sterlingworth. Determined to never try that again.
Congrats on your Parkers and thanks for the articles you are writing, you and the boys have a lot of good times ahead and you are showing a good example for todays Dads. |
Thank you Alfred and thanks everyone!
Ohh my! Those two are very nice on the eye!! Very nice pair!!
Mills, I held and examined both those guns at the viewing day, and they were "sweet" to say the least. Nice pick-up!
Those two had an extra barrel each didn’t they ? And wasn’t there also a third GH in 12 gauge with no wood that was in the package ?
There was a 12 gauge with 2 barrels and no stock too. It is a future project

Mills, both you and Rich Anderson know I am up for adoption. Wont one of you step up to the plate.
My wife says no more kids. Natural or otherwise.
Mills,
I was married once before and we were country mice. A city girl called my wife one day and asked what it was like living with me. Her response was, "Just like having a 12 year old brother that can buy beer." She nailed it. I still have hope Rich will adopt me. |

Julia likes the 28 inch one.
Now that lady has it right a Parker for horizontal barreled guns and as her shell pouch says (if I read it correctly) Krieghoff for vertical barreled guns
That pouch is as close as we will get to a Krieghoff, I am afraid. Had a chance to buy an old one that was a multi barrel set for like 4 grand but didn't have the change laying around

This is interesting. Check out the different sizes of stocks on these two. Both 16 gauge 0 frames. The smaller stock appears to be from a much later gun.

Rich, I have expensive taste, but I'm an easy keeper.
We will get along just fine then. Are you coming to the Southern?
I have a .410 with a large #1 frame butt and stock, and I also have a 1/2 frame 12 that has a #0 frame stock factory carved down to a #00 frame size stock. It is hard to believe until you put it in your hands. There is some weird stuff out there, factory original. What material is Julia's pouch made from? It doesn't look like it's up to her level of quality. Let's talk.
Not sure what it is made of. The Kreighoff people come to Forest City on a regular basis and Julia usually buys a hat, T-shirt or something from them.

Rich,
Sadly, I'm not coming to the Southern. When I can make it to a Parker get together I want to shoot with you again. I remember the last time like it was yesterday. |
I'm sorry you"ll miss it I could use your advise for picking out our next Parker or Purdey:rotf: Hopefully another time.

Craig, the last two NSSA World Shoots at Forest City were in 1990 and 1992. I attended both and had a great time. I broke 539X550 both years and never missed a 20 gauge bird, my greatest feat in American Skeet. I may try to reenter the NSSA skeet game this year at the North South in Maryland. If you are still shooting, maybe you would consider shooting with us in June. It's not such a long trip for you.

First time I shot the North South we had a pretty decent squad . Rick Lawry ( I think that’s spelled correctly , he was a Canadian that was All American Team and had a clay target manufacturing business) , Ralph Petley (who needs no introduction) , Bruce Evans ( he and his wife at the time owned the old Bingham and Parks Club outside Winston Salem ) , my two man team partner John Hannah and myself . Lawrey won the 410 and if memory serves the HOA that weekend . My big claim to fame that weekend was out shooting Mayes in the 28 gauge , but then a whole bunch of folks outdid Mayes with the 28 that weekend for some unexplained reason he shot a 94
