12 ga 28 inch Trojan
Picked up this beauty this week.
Parker Trojan 200578, 12 bore, 28" uncut barrels. 14 1/4" LOP, 1 7/8" DAC, 2 3/4" DAH. It has some nice case colors left on it, though it doesn't show up as well in my photos as it does in person. The wood has a few nicks but nothing obnoxious. Barrels are good and bluing while not perfect is still nice. It is a 28 inch 12 ga trojan which seem to me at least to be a bit rarer then the 30 inch variety. In addition to being a nice gun, this Trojan somewhat represents progression for me in regards to my parker collecting. A while back I had more or less gotten into buying quality or as more tenured parker collectors would say "buy the best condition parker you can afford." I have adopted this philosophy for the most part, except for buying Trojans. A cheap poor condition functional Trojan has always been hard to turn down. Cheap in this case being 600 bucks or less. I have bought and subsequently sold 6 such trojans. I do regret selling one of them, but other then that, after buying them I quickly grew to dislike their pitted actions or heavily sanded stocks or cut barrels and so off they went. I believe this Trojan is progress, it wasn't a cheapo special like the other ones and I recently even passed on such a trojan because it had loose barrels. Yes...Progress indeed. http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11718 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11728 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11727 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11726 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11725 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11723 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11722 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11721 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11720 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...ictureid=11719 |
Pretty good looking

Now THAT’S a keeper for sure!

Nice gun with a lot of condition.
You got a good buy! Best to not always tell what you paid... protect your investment. |
Thanks Brain, but I didn't say what I paid for this one, only that it wasn't a cheap one like the previous trojans I have accumulated.
|
Very nice Trojan Bill, but as I have always believed you did'nt pay too much you just paid too early. Can't see you losing on that one.
|
Dang Bill, thats a good one!

Nice Trojan for sure. I am not trying to nit pick your gun but am trying to refine my eye for originality. I thought, perhaps erroneously, that there should be no checkering border to the rear of the pistol grip. Yet, this one certainly appears to be bordered everywhere. Perhaps Brian can explain further.
|
I have observed that most are bordered, and some even have the backside “cut-away”. Do you mean that the checkering at the back of the pistol grip shouldnt have the mullered border? I have three Trojans, all have a “border” on the butt side of the pistol grip.
|
Someone on the forum a while back indicated that a mullered border on that rear line is an indication of a restock. So, I have been using that as a quick guide to originality. That wisdom is now questionable although I have a V and P that lack the mullered border on that rear line and I believe them both to be original. So, now I am confused. As often is the case I learn how little I know.
|
Gary, you can message Brian about it, I believe he has stated that trojans should have the MB on the rear line but higher grades should not. If I am understanding him correctly.

The Trojan pattern should have a full mullered border. Other grades will have no mullered border on the lower rear section of the grip. It would be jumping to extremes to say that on the applicable grades, the border in said area would be indication of a full restock. Just incorrect recut of the checkering. |

As someone who is always learning, could you please tell me what a mullered border means? |

Here is an example of an expertly executed mullered border on a CH straight grip.
It is the perfect concave chiseled groove between two lines around the border of the checkering. Double-click on the image to enlarge. . |

Thank you very much. Now I understand. |
A forum search will also yield more reaults than you are wanting to go through I am sure.

beautiful trojan, very similar to the one I picked up here in Pa. about 20 yrs. ago from an older gentleman who was going into a extended care facility. The one big difference is that yours has more case coloring than mine. Nice find!
