Vent Rib question

Are the numbers of vent rib production in the Parker Story accurate?
The book says 18 in VHE, with 32" bbl. If accurate, I've owned two of the 18. Seems impossible..

Rich Anderson 01-27-2019 09:05 PM

I would say they are more of an approximation. I can't speak for your particular
gun but I have owned some that there were allegedly only a few produced and I've had two or three of them.

There are some missing books from the mid to late 20’s the Vent Rib was introduced in 1926 I think.
I have a 32” VHE Trap, I have seen two others so I don’t think 18 is the number, but they are not common.

Add one more VHE 32'' vent rib trap to the talley, Double triggers and a ball grip no less.

I have a 32" VHE trap here also. In fact I shot it today!

The ventilated rib on Parker Bros. shotguns was first introduced on trap guns in 1917.

I still need to confirm this one is correct. Might need to get a letter.

The prime vent rib period is the prime "missing book" period. I have owned or known of more PHE Traps than are listed in the books. The VHE Trap is a similar situation.

Pictures eould help. Does it have the flat top frame?

I also would also like to see some pics as I am considering buying one. Not sure about the stock looks thick and gawdy to me and is a monty carlo type.

This is the gun in question. I've never seen a ramp like this.

Todd, The frame is correct for a vent rib gun. But the rib itself looks to have been repaired

todd allen 01-28-2019 03:17 PM

Yes, apparently some work done to it. Hef confirmed on another thread that it came, as equipped.
Any recommendations on a gunsmith to repair the rib, and replace some screws?

Rich Anderson 01-28-2019 03:52 PM

Depending on the cost of the gun and the additional cost of making it right you might be better off to keep looking. A vent rib 12 isn't that hard to find.

Gerald McPherson 01-28-2019 03:59 PM

Todd; I just returned from looking at a VHE trap gun that has the same issues as yours only the screws are missing and the rear stud is loose among other issues. If you have a picture of the stock on yours would you please post it. Thanks. Gerald

I wasn't particularly looking for a project, but this gun kinda clicked with me. I had a similar era VHE that was upgraded to an A1 Special by Runge and Delgreco.
The gun had a certain feel to it, and I shot it very well. If I do something with this gun, it would be to get it back on track mechanically, and maybe restock it.

Well, first step. Barrel soundness? Check. Barrels look good, are clean and bright. Chokes are 30k left, 37k right. Yep. A left barrel first gun. Coincidence that my other 1 1/2 frame Trap gun was a left barrel first gun, as well. Patterns are what you would expect, considering the tight chokes. Nothing will survive inside that pattern!
I'm thinking pigeon gun.
Next step will be to replace some screws. Any suggestions there would be appreciated.
