Parker DHE 2-Barrel Question
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all!
I am new to this forum and, frankly, Parkers as well. I am a FFL (a small 1-man shop in Massachusetts) and have consigned 4 Parkers, which is where my education began. Pretty quickly I picked up a copy of the Parker Gun Identification & Serialization which has proven a great primer and reference. I am looking for some input on a 20 gauge DHE that has two sets of barrels. Serial numbers on both barrels match (as well as the receiver and forend). One of the barrel sets (26” and presumably the original) is marked “Titanic Steel” while the other (28”) is void of any rib markings. The Parker Gun Identification & Serialization does not reference a second set of barrels, only the option “2” (ejectors). The serial number is 239154, putting the gun in the Remington years. My assumption at would be that after initial delivery, a second set of barrels was ordered which were made and fitted under Remington. Thoughts? |
Show us the rest of it please. The second set could be original or added later by Remington. Show us the barrel flats for each barrel so we can see if there are Remington repair codes. DHE 20's are nice guns.

Michael, where in Mass are you located?
|
Hi Mike! I know you... or I know your father... executive director of GOAL, right?
I live in Andover, MA and have held positions as BOD member and officer of a couple of shooting and fishing clubs. I'm glad you found us! The set of barrels without the legend on the rib are late Remington production. But we should still see clear pictures of the barrel flats. Where is your shop? I'd like to visit you there. Best, Dean . |
Are both sets 20 Gauge? One looks larger.

The second set looks to be remington made and remington fitted barrels. Fitted to the gun at a later date then the gun was originally made.

Michael, check your pm's

Ditto...

All - thanks already for the input! Here are some better images of the barrel flats.
|
The lower two pics are definitely Remington made barrels and the upper pictures are of Parker-made or Meriden era of Remington owned Parker gun works made barrels that have stamps only associated with Remington ownership.

I'm curious as to why the Remington barrels would be 12oz heavier unstruck weight.
|
I'm sure the offers are pouring in via pm. A nice gun for the holidays.
|
My dream 20ga for sure.
|
In the last picture, the bottom rib is drilled ahead of the fore end lug. Does this this indicate the barrels were reblued?

So, what's the rest of the gun look like?

Michael can you share with us what the other 3 Parkers are? I think you mentioned you had 4 on consignment?

Please tell us the GI item number.

I believe this is it. Interesting engraving..... https://www.gunsinternational.com/gu...n_id=101135481 |
Nice Remington Parker DHE. I believe the engraving was done by Bob Runge.
It appears the stock and forend were done in Meriden by Parker Bros. Employees as the drop points and checkering are of that style, most likely done just before the move to Illion. I wonder if it was Remington’s decision or that of the engraver to sidestep the traditional Parker Bros. positioning of the pointer on the left and the setter on the right side of the frame by reversing the position of the dogs. I wonder what might be the first serial number Parker to display this new trend in engraving ‘style’? . |
Some new thoughts just added to my previous post.
