32 inch 20 survey

Several have posted about their 32 inch 20's and hunting with them. I'd like to know what frame size these guns are on. If these were meant for waterfowling I would think they would be an a one frame. I have one that came out of California with factory 3 inch chambers but it's an 0 frame, just seems light for a small bore duck gun.

Dean Romig 12-11-2018 12:53 PM

The 3” 20’s weren’t developed for heavier loads or increased downrange energy. The 3” shells of the day just used thicker wads necessitating a longer shell and chamber. They had basically the same ballistics and charges of the shorter shells.

Hope you don't mind me inquiring on this within your thread Rich but I would be curious as to the weight of these 2 frame guns. The general question seems to follow your original scope of interest on the thread.

Phillip Carr 12-11-2018 10:44 PM

My 32” 20 VH is on a 1 frame and letters to 2 7/8” chambers.

Randy thats a good question. I'll weigh mine today and post results. I'm taking Ike out for a hunt then back in time to trade the Parker for a rifle for an afternoon deer hunt.

Hopefully others will "weigh in" with the weights of their 2 frame guns. Enjoy the hunting.

My gun is an 1889 vintage heavy 2-frame, 32-inch Damascus barrel, 12-gauge, GH-Grade that got a set of 32-inch, 20-gauge, 3-inch chamber, Vulcan Steel barrels in the 1918 to 1926 time frame. I get the time frame for the 20-gauge barrels from the fact they have the CT, U.S.A. rib legend but don't have the Overload Proved stamp. With the 20-gauge barrels weighs 8 pounds 4.5 ounces.

Randy,
My 2 frame 20 has an unstruck barrel weight of 4# 11oz and a finished weight of 4# 4oz. Its a straight grip no safety gun that weights in at just under 8# 8oz. Definitely not an upland gun but man does she crush clays.

32” 20 survey

I attended an estate sale in 2004 and foolishly passed on VHE 202,247, a 32” 20 ga on a 1 frame. It had a Parker trap style stock. I did not record the chamber depth. To compound my error I also passed on Fox Super 30,070 (Burt Becker) 12/32 3 inch, damaged stock. The Parker sold for $1200, and the Fox sold for $925. Live and learn.

Larry, I think you need to bring that beauty to the New Year's Day shoot at Major Waldron's.

32” 20s

I had a young family and serious bills. I had just purchased a Model 21 the night before. Wish I had a do-over.

Thanks for the info Larry. I bet that gun is a blast on the clays course. Outweighs my 1 frame by almost a pound.

scott kittredge 12-12-2018 06:56 PM

Mine is a
32 in. On a 0 frame

Rich Anderson 12-12-2018 08:53 PM

My BHE with straight grip, splinter, SST (Miller) to a pad weighs exactly 7lbs. O frame.

Michael Moffa 12-12-2018 09:08 PM

What about short barelled 2 frame 20's?

Reggie Bishop 12-13-2018 12:26 PM

10-0 frames
08-1 frames
05 2 frames

23 totals to date

Rich Anderson 12-13-2018 12:38 PM

Reggie thanks for doing the tabulations. The 0 frame is more prevalent than I would have thought.

Reggie Bishop 12-13-2018 02:01 PM

Rich I am surprised by that as well.

Dean Romig 12-13-2018 02:17 PM

What no 1 1/2 frames?

.

Randy G Roberts 12-13-2018 02:32 PM

[QUOTE=Dean Romig;260307]What no 1 1/2 frames?

My thoughts exactly. Made me look at the frame size by gauge on the website to be sure it was offered.

Ed Blake 12-13-2018 02:52 PM

My #2 frame DH has an unstruck barrel weight of 5.2 lbs.

Mills Morrison 12-13-2018 04:14 PM

Rock Island had a GH 20 with 32" barrels on a 0 frame. The serial number would have put it in the mid teens or so. I was sorry I lost out on it
