VH 20 with Steel buttplate

Interesting...would love to see a letter on this gun!

Brian Dudley 06-27-2018 11:20 AM

Typical fashion for this seller. Does not obtain a letter to verify the claims made in the description, and does not provide the serial number so that an interested buyer can get a letter. The buyer is expected to buy the gun, with “confidence”, at a premium.

Ask for the full serial number and see if you get it.

There was a lot of convoluted conversation about this gun on the other forum and pictures would not be posted. Now they are on the gunbroker listing.
I do have to admit that the gun does appear like it could be legit.

My money says the steel plate is not original, but who knows

Eric Eis 06-27-2018 02:52 PM

Isn't that the gun that was discussed on doublegun, I think a Mr. Ed Good posed the question........ I would be very, very careful !

Mark Ray 06-27-2018 02:56 PM

I think it is an interesting gun...but I am not interested in owning it.

I saw that exchange on DGJ. Rough crowd over there!!!

Mills Morrison 06-27-2018 03:06 PM

They toned it down over there. It was really out of hand for a while and sometimes humorous. My favorite was when they were accusing each other of being "closet anti-gunners"

If the metal plate is the only issue, it would make a good shooter for someone

I find the steel butt plate aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Eric Eis 06-27-2018 03:15 PM

Remember we are talking Ed Good the "torch"!

Dean Romig 06-27-2018 04:31 PM

That "Ed-1" actually is Ed Good.

The buttplate could be original but keep in mind that a VH of that vintage actually would have had a spurred DHBP so installing an earlier spurred steel butt plate would have been no great feat. That being said, those screws were perfectly fitted and THAT'S quite a feat.

Isn't the wood rounded under the steel plate? Also the comb "looks" fatter to me.

Bill Murphy 06-27-2018 05:08 PM

Mills, Ed Good is no closet anti gunner. He is out in the open.

John Dallas 06-27-2018 05:24 PM

What am I doing wrong? I only see the initial picture

Dean Romig 06-27-2018 09:00 PM

John, you should see a pretty faint left arrow and right arrow to the left and right of the picture.

No, the wood was flat beneath most steel butt plates.

The comb looks about perfect to me for that period.

The butt looks curved, just like all "buttplate" Parkers. Ed does not give us a picture that shows the comb from the top.

Dean Romig 06-28-2018 09:24 AM

I thought Mark meant 'convex' under the domed steel plate rather than the usual curved contour.
