Friendship and new experiences

This past week I took off work to help work the local SxS shoot, because the local club supports my youth trap club .WOW , what a experience !
My 16 yr old son and myself tried so many new things .
5 stand, Damascus guns, hammer guns, twist guns,Parker's,vh's,dh's,16ga, a fox,and even a sauer. And that was all very cool.
However it did not compare to the class and kindness found. Several guys insisted we shoot their guns, but wouldn't let us pay for shells. Several insisted we shoot their guns because it looked like we were working too much.I had one guy meet me everyday with a handshake and a smile and advise me on good buys he saw for a beginner . I think he might be my new unrelated Uncle (we just plain clicked) and will be one of the first I search out on any further SxS outings. Then there were the different gentleman that would come and visit with my daughter for a hour at a time at our youth booth, Yes you fellas made her day too !Thank you, Thank you, Thank you .
what a awesome week ! And Happy Father's day

Making new friends, the generosity of the sxs fraternity (and most shooters of other types of guns) is what it's all about. That's what keeps folks coming back and what draws new shooters to the fold.

Lee you have found the secret of what it is all about. See the reports of the last big shoot and read not about shooting but friends, ribs, guitars and the side things. I feel sorry for the guy who shoots and goes and is only interested in score. Shot a charity SC shoot and was the only sxs, enjoyed talking to people who showed interest and loved the look on their faces when i said here shoot it.

This shoot in Medford WI is first class all the way. Its families like Lee's and other volunteers giving there time to make it all possible. It will be a staple in my SxS diet for as long as they host. Thank you for all the fun, see ya next year

There is no better shoot on the calendar than The Great Northern in Medford WI. I shot 8 different guns and burned up at least 5 flats if not 6. I use the big kitty litter pails for shells and went through two and a half of them:shock:

The Medford shoot was great (in spite of the weather) but the best part is meeting old friends and and making new friends. We did burn up alot of shells (gas millage on the truck improved on the way back! ) Shot five different guns and loaned out three, it was a great time and I was pleased to meet Lee and I hope his fundraising for the high school team went well.

I hope the time frame between Hausmanns and the Medford shoot changes next year.
I would like to go to Medford and skip the Southern/Drakes

Nope, change Hausmanns to the first week in June, Medford back the way it was practice Thursday, Friday, the shoot Sat. and Sunday and the warm up is the Southern, shooting at Drakes (500 targets) and socializing and looking at guns and seeing Friends at the Deep River. Harold you have to do all "Three" !

Rich Anderson 06-18-2018 12:24 PM

Harold if you have to skip one it would be Ernies....and it pains me to say that but IMHO it's the truth.

Harold Lee Pickens 06-18-2018 12:34 PM

I will disgree with you on that Rich, I enjoy Hausmann's much more than Deep River/Drakes. Much more relaxing. The people I shoot with are great at both places, but I just like Ernies better. Sorry you couldnt make it this year.

All three are different, and that is why you have to do all three........Each one has a different spin and a group of people that is slightly different at each venue.

I do like them all but I agree with you Harold, Ernie's is my favorite shoot of the year. I love the Bo-Whoop and the targets Evil Mike set and the qualification rounds for the challenge being shot on the 5 stand worked well.

I look forward to the Southern all winter. This year I had a great time at Drake's also. And will not miss Ernie's. Someday I hope to be able to do the WI shoot also. This working thing gets in the way of a bunch stuff.

Kinda a conundrum ! Generally if you have the money to do all the shoots , you don’t have the time because of work . And on the other hand “generally” if you have the time and don’t work you most likely don’t have the extra money :rotf:

OP Lee thanks for your sentiments. I'm sure glad you had a terrific time and it comes through in your post.

Rich Anderson 06-19-2018 11:13 AM

Usually there is a week gap between Ernie's and the Wisconsin shoot but due to changes in scheduling from both events it just didn't work out this time. Hopefully next years time frames will be more friendly. If I missed the Southern my bank account would be much better:whistle:
