CHE 1 Frame 16ga.

I keep looking at photo #22 and don't know what I am seeing. The one thing I think I think, is I haven't seen or read of something like this before.

Brett,
I can't make out what is written either but that band is where Bob Runge and perhaps others would put their name on some of the upgrades done in the past. I had a 20 gage A1S that was done by Runge and DelGrego and Babe pointed that area out to me.

Chad Hefflinger 06-01-2018 09:07 AM

Looks to me like it says reproduction by xxxxx?

Ted Hicks 06-01-2018 09:08 AM

Pic #11 looks to me like a photo of the engraving on the trigger guard, which looks like it was re-blued along with the barrels. It also looks like the skeleton butt plate has been blued too?

In photo #22 of the forend, what are the holes in the iron where it would meet the receiver?

Brett Hoop 06-01-2018 09:10 AM

Larry

Those were my thoughts, but I had not seen, or had it pointed out to me. Appreciate the information. Neat place to blend it in and I bet it's not easy to see with the naked eye.

Dean Romig 06-01-2018 09:21 AM

All Parker ejector (only) guns have those two holes.

It definitely looks like a DelGrego/Runge upgrade.

I'll bet 222,888 is in one of the 'lost' books.

Is the serial number engraved correctly?

It was done very nicely but not like any other graded Meriden Parker that I've seen.

And the last legible part of it looks like ILION

That SN is certainly Meriden, however, the barrels show the SN location ala Remington, and Meriden would not have stamped the bore choking. (In fact all the barrel stamping seems Remington) There appears to be a V on the right barrel flat, which I might expect on an upgrade (Too bad the seller didn't include a photo of the rib inscription) so it seems to me it was re-barreled AND upgraded. I like it more than any upgrade I have seen, despite the wood.

The barrels are Remington Era barrels as per the markings on the side of the barrel lug, and the serial number location on the barrels.

None of the serial number stamping looks right to me for any era of Parker.

And there is very little that looks right about the engraving. Especially on the frame.

That poorly cut signature appears to read "reproduction by ???" I can't even begin to make out the end of it.

I think it is safe to say the gun is a upgrade.

The dogs look a little scruffy and overweight too! The head on the pointer looks like a TN blue tick hound.

I just finished close inspection of my recently acquired A1S 20 GA Skeet Gun Upgrade using a jewelers loop.
The "band " reads:
ENGR REPRODUCTION RPRUNGE ILION NY
This band is only 1/16" in width and I am amazed that it could be so engraved!

With a lot of help with the hint from Bob, I'm able to read it, except this gun says "......BY RPRUNGE...."

Dean Romig 06-01-2018 05:00 PM

I agree...

Followed by ILION

That is exactly what I see. Probably started life as a VHE

Sometimes, images like this are better seen with the naked eye. Too much detail in a digital image can fool the brain.

CHE

Seems like old Bill Jaqua (just end died Jan this yr ar 94 yrs) always had a supply of upgraded guns of all types. Think he bought a bunch of Franck Pachmayr guns which I recall some Parkers and Model 21 which some of which were quite nice. Just my comments hate to see so many of the Really Old Guys go that I remember growing up and read about.

Garry L Gordon 06-01-2018 10:15 PM

Fascinating to read the observations! So, what's this gun worth in the estimation of those who have scrutinized the photos? Just curious.
