Need some advice
3 Attachment(s)
Just purchased a hammer Ithaca NIG 12 from a seller on GI. The seller misrepresented the gun. I asked them several times if both firing pins were present and their reply was most certainly. I picked up the gun today and the left barrel firing pin is absent and the right barrel inside is very pitted. The outside of the gun is incredible. Case color is perfect and so are the twisted barrels. Couple questions... I’ll attach some photos. Do you think the pitting in the right barrel (left barrel is perfect) will prevent this from being shootable and how much would one expect to pay for a firing pin to be made/replaced? Should I just send the gun back?
Thanks...I appreciate your responses. Shawn |

Firing pins are relatively easy to replace.
Sewer pipe bores on the other hand are not..... . |
Shawn
i'd be concerned if the one barrel is that pitted and the "(left barrel is perfect)" that doesn't make sense - unless the left barrel firing pin has been missing since the gun was made i expect the one was cleaned up you would have to know the wall thickness to decide if it is safe to shoot- |
There are lots of guns out there that you wouldn't be asking these questions of.......
Heavy pitting like that, when you measure wall thickness try to measure from the bottom of the deepest pit to get the minimum value; that's where the concern will be. |
Send it back. Condition was misrepresented.

I would have to agree. Send it back.

Thanks all...I’m sending it back. They definitely misrepresented the gun on the GI ad. I appreciate everyone’s advice!

By misrepresenting the gun the seller is trying to get away with something. By sending it back he might learn a lesson..

Condtion Ithaca
Hey Shawn, Bindlestaff is right there are too many guns to settle for a misrepresented gun to have to go spend money on to correct some major faults. You have some nice guns send that one back and keep combing the net and friends. I still have a nice Lewis era 16 ga 4 Ithaca I would consider selling, Latham engraved , 28" Damascus, good dimensions.

If the seller misrepresented the gun (in this case, lied to you, possible unknowingly), and you feel burnt, then return it and insist on 100% of your money back! Meaning shipping (both ways) included.
I have had this happen to me before and i got all my money back. Some things are completely inexcusable. This is an example of just that. This kind of reminds me of one particular horror story i heard come out of one particular repair shop. The particular Gunsmith says “your gun is done, it works great! I was shooting skeet with it yesterday.” The gun came back to the gustomer with the left firing pin NOT IN THE GUN! You cant shoot doubles in skeet with one barrel! Simply Embarrassing! |
I'd say it's "Perfectly pitted". Very thorough and deep pitting. Send it back.

Thanks again everyone I truly appreciate your input. They have agreed to take it back for 100% refund. Live and learn!
