Patience...

I've learned how to have patience while fishing for a certain species. I can't set the hook on the first bait attack. I'll wait the three seconds and then slowly lift the rod. When the next attack comes a quick setting of the hook by raising my rod as quick as I can. Got em'. Well except for landing him in the boat, I got em'.

Patience at sea, patience in the woods, and patience in the hospital. As a new Parker aficionado I need some Parker Patience. I'm unaccustomed to the genre. Is there even such a concept, or do I just jump into denial of desire. " No, you can't have that." As if that can stop the yearning.

I did order the Parker Pages as suggested by some, but that was last Thursday and it hasn't even shipped yet. Maybe I should stay off Guns International for a while, or take the Mrs shopping yet again. Nope, nice try but that doesn't work. " How do you like this blouse honey? Honey are you even listening?" Meanwhile I don't even see the item or hear the question. I have the husband thousand yard stare, while thinking, hmm Bernard barrels must be terrific and I really admire the hammer guns. Then I do notice the stare. " Honey it looks wonderful on you, take it. " Where the heck is that book?

I leave off with a question, is there such a thing as Parker Patience ?

It comes with time and experience... after you have made a few 'mistake' purchases. Those tend to teach humility and patience.

Most of us have survived that stage.

What a great question. You'll find a number of "seasoned" Parker folks on this site, and get to see others in the throes of dealing with a lack of patience. I think many among the more seasoned group would tell you that early on they made decisions in haste that ultimately they regretted, although they can now recognize how they learned and grew from those lapses of patience. If you can exercise that patience you refer to, let us know your secret. If not, you'll find some to commiserate with here.

Have fun!

There is a “Law” of the universe that states, as soon as you buy a gun you don’t really want, within days you will find the the one you really wanted.

Mills Morrison 05-08-2018 05:04 PM

Paying too much for some of them is just a rite of passage

Rich Anderson 05-08-2018 05:08 PM

The next Parker is the best Parker. Welcome to the afflicted, there is no cure just more Parkers .:rotf:

Reminds me of the old adage. I have never paid too much for a gun, but I have bought a few too early.:rotf:

I agree Dean becoming bloodied teaches humility quickly. i deconstructed a shotgun shell at age eleven. What I didn't know was the primer was an explosive and not merely a striker. After removing it from the heel of my hand, the blood flowed rather well.

After following the behaviors set by Tom Sawyer, Toby Tyler, and Jack London I understand seasoning. Mobirdhunter thanks for the post. It is a great question and I agree most seasoned members will agree there's always some room for more. Foolhardy and adventurous are two distinct concepts.

Mike your post reminds me of " What is the Law ?" More pain !" No no Dr, Moreau, we're not going there. A small tweak or a nose hair snap at most. Losing a thousand on a deal is not a disabling occurrence but it does smart.

Mills, just the mention of rites of passage allows us to know your position. I'm not saying it refers to parkers, but they are magnificent occurrences. I almost lost my pollywogness, but was directed elsewhere just prior to the proceedings.

It never fails, or at least up until now, I've thought of the next one almost before I arrived home with the new one. C.O.B. I'd like to get my first best Parker first. LOL

Randy I'd like to continue that thought by adding, and sold it through anger for a loss and completed the debacle.

Thank folks, thought I'd address you all and perhaps become more familiar. In time I may be able to add to Parker specifics, but for now I can only print what I know.

Remaining faithful The Parker Story will arrive soon. One week and counting.

Patience is a double edged sword. On the buy as well as on the sell.
Am I alone in too hurriedly surrendering a fine gun in hopes of the next,
only to learn that I had acted impetuously and now regret the departure of something I wish I still had?

My Grandma used to say, "Let us make haste slowly".
If only I had listened.:crying:

Mills Morrison 05-09-2018 06:01 PM

Too much patience can also lead to the "one that got away" syndrome.

Craig Larter 05-09-2018 07:00 PM

I am not a patient person so my form of self discipline is putting a self imposed restriction on the total number of guns I own. It fores me to sell one to buy one. I try to buy original condition because it is much easier to sell. I would like to have kept them all but I like the new arrivals better than the guns sold. I tend to gravitate toward the mid-grade guns, Parker Grade 3's and 4's are my sweet spot. The bottom line is buy what you like!!!

Alexander Sharpe 05-10-2018 10:24 AM

I didn't consider the double edged sword aspect of patience. Thank you for rounding out the concept.

Gary Carmichael Sr 05-10-2018 10:34 AM

Of all the Parkers I have bought all were wonderful at the time, As time goes by you find one a little better in color engraving etc, so you sell one you bought several years ago, to justify the new purchase, but remember the one you sold is cherished by the new owner just as you did when you first bought the gun. It's a never ending cycle as long as one lives, but it is great Gary

Speaking of patience, I'm still waiting on the Parker Story I bought on Amazon. Ordered on May 3rd, both Amazon and I haven't been notified of the shipment. Hopefully the seller just forgot to add the details and doesn't come up lame. I'd hate to lose two weeks of reading for naught.

Bobby Cash 05-14-2018 10:41 AM

And don't forget the State of California imposed patience...DROS. :cuss:
Dealer Record of Sale, the mandatory dreaded 10 day wait on any gun.
Pick up day today for my new Parker. The agony and the ecstasy.

Alexander Sharpe 05-14-2018 11:08 AM

Loud and clear PD

Alexander Sharpe 05-14-2018 01:41 PM

The Parker Story is on the way. I just got off the phone, and due to the seller attending the Southern my shipment was delayed. Can't fault a guy for attending one of our shindigs.

Mills Morrison 05-14-2018 03:23 PM

Once you get it, it will be a year before you can put it down. And then, only briefly

Rich Anderson 05-15-2018 03:17 PM

I have few virtues, patience isn't one of them:). Every time a gun is bought and sold something is learned and learning is good therefore the buying and selling of guns is a good thing. The buying is easy the selling not so much.

There are a thousand cliche`s yet to be even employed "Patience, who has time for that?"

"Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want".

My personal favorite is "Good thought, bad idea", it covers almost everything with regard to perspective. Generally it is also goes with hey hold my beer and watch me do this, which is always the que to call 911 as something is about to go badly. BTW I am waiting to find an epitaph on a tombstone reading "I asked someone to hold my beer, and here I lay". I think it only appropriate that the tombstone also have a built in cup holder carved into it.

Please enjoy your new addictive Parker Passion responsibly and never visit the gun sights after a few drinks, that, and in the bilge of a boat when sea sick is where the devil lives.

Dean Romig 05-15-2018 08:56 PM

My favorite is "Hey, watch this everybody! I saw it in a cartoon once and I know I can do it!"

One of my favs and you can apply it to many a discussion is "You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts".

I like that set-up, i am SO out of room. Been thinking of going that route, with another row above, my office/gun room/music room has 10’ ceilings, so that would work!!!

This case is two rows deep, and holds a lot....but not enough!,shame you cant stack ‘em!!,

Mark I can't quite figure out from the picture how you place and remove guns from that second row. How does that work ?

Randy...It is a PITA. you have to remove a gun or two from the front row to get one in or out of the back row. So the back row houses rifles, and repeaters... I still have about 20doubles that live in cases, and another several, scattered around....

The damn ITIS has got a grip on me!!!

My favorite quote along the lines above...comes from the movie a fish called Wanda.

Kevin Kline to Jamie Lee Curtis....."Don't call me stupid!"
Jamie Lee in response......"You're right, because calling you stupid, is an insult to Stupid People!!"

Mills Morrison 05-16-2018 03:31 PM

Glad I am not the only one who has a bunch in cases and laying around

Randy G Roberts 05-16-2018 03:58 PM

Got it Mark. I inquired as I am having thoughts of a gun room remodel. I think
I am going to get away from the vault and more into a display mode. I also have some cases laying around. I sold a bunch of double guns back in early
2008 and said I was not going to do that again, I am going to own a handful only to shoot and they will be real nice. It appears that I have veered off course somehow. Matter of fact I am working on buying 2 more today, yes sir, I am a rock !:banghead::banghead:

Mark Ray 05-16-2018 04:05 PM

Ditto Brother!! Awaiting my first Model. 21 today.......have checked the damn tracking about 10 times....I think I might try Cocaine next...

Mills Morrison 05-16-2018 04:09 PM

21's are great guns, even if blasphemy to say here. I love mine
