barrels and frame size
what barrels wii fit a 12 gauge #1 frame or must barrel frame # match frame #
|
they need to match
|
1/2 frame barrels will fit a #1 frame gun, if you can find a set. Good luck with that.

barrels for # 1 frame
Thanks Bill so will a 1 1/2 barrel work on a number one frame or does it have to be 1/2
|
Don't waste your time looking for a 1/2 frame set of barrels. They are far and few between. 1 frame barrels on a 1 frame receiver, 1 1/2 frame barrels on a 1 1/2 frame receiver and so on and so on.

barrels for number one frame
thanks double lab
|
maybe find a set of 16 ga barrels in a 1 frame???
|
Great point Scott. While you're at it Mike don't turn down a 1 frame 20. In other words a 1 frame is a 1 frame regardless of gauge.
|
Instead of confusing the OP with the 1/2 frame oddity, lets just stick to the guidline that the frame size has to be matched when looking for compatible barrel sets.
For the number 1 frame size, you could go with 12g, 16g or even 20g. 12g and 16g would be most commonly found. 20g would be rare. |

|
My 1/2 frame DHE has been fitted with two sets of non original barrels, one set is an orphan 1/2 frame 12 gauge set, the other set a #1 frame 16 gauge orphan set. Don't give up.

barrels cut or not cut
I have a Parker GH 12 gauge number one frame with 30 Inch Parker Damascus steel barrels. The second barrel I have is a Parker Vulcan steel barely that is 26 inches long and choke ic and ic. The serial number of the gun is 77807 an under the serial number it says March 15, 1875. I am assuming the 30 inch Damascus barrels were the original barrels on the gun. The only markings I see on the 26 inch Parker Vulcan steel barrels are the initials PW underneath that I assume it’s the barrel weight 3.15 and then a real small 96. under the PW is also the letter D. can any of you let me know about the barrels do they match with the serial number. I shoot steel barrels quite a bit great for skeet and doves. Does anyone have an opinion on shooting the Damascus barrels? Wood finishing them and browning them weaken the barrels or lower the value of the gun?
sorry for being long-winded but a new rookie to the association. |
damascus barrels
Does anybody have an opinion on lining Damascus barrels?
|
Mike, don't bother lining or sleeving Damascus barrels - it won't be worth the expense.
Have a qualified doublegun smith examine and measure wall thickness on yours. Wham you get the green flag from him, shoot away... with appropriate loads of course. In fact, all old guns should be inspected and measured before shooting - it just makes good sense to do so. . |
thanks dean u have an opinion on finishing them and browning them
|
Refinishing Damascus barrels is usually optional, but it sure makes the barrels look better.

thank you Dean I agree if they’re done correctly there beautiful are the members shooting low pressure loads or black powder loads through Damascus have any suggestions I know RST Make some low pressure Loads in 2 1/2 inch
|
Most of us use low pressure loads from various sources like RST and a couple of others while a great many load their own using published reloading data. A few use black powder.
