I like the SSBP. Nobody has screwed around with this gun based on that alone.

I'm sure this gun just went through one of the big auction sites.
Odd the letter writer used the abbreviation for Alaska (AK) in stead of AR, for Arkansas. (Unless there's also a Pine Bluff, and Little Rock Alaska)

Bill Murphy 05-04-2018 09:42 AM

Our researcher made the AK error. A new letter will solve this problem for the new owner. This gun was offered at Julia's last auction and obviously is being flipped by the buyer, or shopped around by the owner.

It was item 1295, with an estimate of $60K-$90K, and didn't sell. Seems a little thing like a rough skeleton butt plate would put people off of something as rare as this.
Equally odd, that the owner would put it in Cabelas, when it didn't sell at Julia's.

That was/is my big question Edgar; how did a gun like this end up at Cabelas?? I suspect we'll have a lot of time to view it on their website.

Jim DiSpagno 05-04-2018 11:31 AM

Maybe they traded it in for a couple of fully equipped bass boats with trailers

Rich Anderson 05-04-2018 04:32 PM

I'm surprised the owner got it back from Julia's if it didn't sell. I have known others who didn't get guns back but were paid the reserve.

I wonder if it was sold to Cabelas or it's there on consignment.

I called Cabela's this morning. When the guy in the gun library couldn't answer my questions about shipping it to a Cabela's closer to me I was given to the assistant general manager. The assistant general manager said they would put me on a list. I'm number four to potentially "look at it" in their store, sorry no shipping to a local store on this gun. I asked if any of the three in front of me had put any money on it, they said no. I asked If I showed and had the $90k if they would sell it to me, they said no, I'm number four with the option to buy it if the three in front of me don't. Waiting for a be back on a $90k sale? I'll wait for a better one I guess. They do own the shotgun according to the assistant general manager.

There are a limited number of 20 gauge A-1 Specials out there. The subject gun being one of three with 28" barrels. A twenty-six inch 20 gauge A-1S that comes to mind is No. 172610 which has its original straight grip stock and is in "near new" condition. 172610 is engraved not in the deep chisel relief common to most A-1S Parkers, but is engraved in fine scroll with hidden game scenes in the foliate as well as the major game scenes on the sides of the frame and the dog's head engraved on the floor plate. See The Parker Story, pages 363 & 364 as well as in Larry Baer's book.

(Length of barrels I originally typed as 26" has been edited to correspond with original post.)
