What did you buy at the Southern?

Lets see:

Hosford gage set
Russel Moccasins
Austin's book
Parker hat, patch and shirt
Southern Pin for hat
Quart of Maple Syrup

No guns though I did leave one with Geoffrey G to touch up the engraving.

Did look at Josh's 28ga at $72,500, the bank said "NO."

Spin

John Dallas 05-01-2018 09:50 PM

Is the bank spelled "Wife", using the modern spelling?

Michael Moffa 05-01-2018 10:24 PM

Yes Sir!

CraigThompson 05-02-2018 12:44 AM

I bought two boxes of RST 20 gauge 2 1/2" Spreader Loads , 2 packs Nabs and a Diet Pepsi .

Mills Morrison 05-02-2018 06:02 AM

Just a little 20 GA.

Eric Eis 05-02-2018 06:40 AM

Couple of flats of RST 121 ga shells, and a project Parker VH 28 ga.

Rich Anderson 05-02-2018 07:29 AM

I picked up a stunning CHE 16 that I had made previous arrangements for. I sold a nice DH live bird gun and being as fiscally prudent as I am I put the money into a VHE vent rib 20ga skeet gun. Once again bowing to my sense of responsibility in all things financial and gun orientated I traded a bunch of Winchesters for a Purdey 16ga two barrel set:eek:

Bob thats one nice 20 please tell us more.

Reggie Bishop 05-02-2018 07:44 AM

Rich we must see pics of the CHE!

Randy G Roberts 05-02-2018 08:03 AM

VHE-16 Gauge-DT-SFE-PG-DHBP-32" Barrels
Hosford wall thickness gauge
4 flats of RST, most of which is spread out at Deep River now.

George M. Purtill 05-02-2018 08:12 AM

A stack of plates my wife picked out that have nice hunt/birds scenes.
Two PGCA hats
A Columbian Exposition Trade card:) (thanks Eric)
Food for 4 for 4 days
My sons shooting including shells for 4 days. Good investment.
My son's girlfriend's shooting. VERY good investment. Gotta love her name- Blakely Parker.

Randy G Roberts 05-02-2018 08:17 AM

I forgot about the clothing that Cathy from Spin Wheel had there. I felt like her pricing was really friendly. I bought something like 1 hat, 3 button up shirts, 2 Tees and the tally was like 90 bucks. It seems low to me especially for the button ups.

Kevin McCormack 05-02-2018 09:04 AM

1 Marinated Pork Burritto
2 " " Tacos
2 Diet Cokes
1 Totally Screaming Savage Fox SPE 12 ga. Skeet Special in @ 98% condition
1 Greifelt 16 ga. Jones Underlever (!) 29.5" Bbls.
1 Hosford choke gauge

Also tried to buy a stunning Becker A.H. Fox 12 ga. 3" Magnum w/ 32" barrels but decided it was not worth refinancing my house mortgage to satisfy the ridiculously high asking price. Sold lots of geegaws and stuff I wanted to get rid of and came home a happy boy.

John Davis 05-02-2018 09:13 AM

I parted with an L C Smith 12 gauge 4E and picked up the above mentioned Ithaca SBT. The Smith had 26 inch cut barrels, the Ithaca has a straight grip stock and 34 inch barrels. Net even on guns (so Jennifer doesn't know the difference, not that she would notice or care) and I too came home a happy fellow.

Reggie Bishop 05-02-2018 09:15 AM

Enjoyed checking out the straight stocked, 30" barreled CHE & DHE 20s that Steve Barnett has had on his website for a while now, as well as the the damascus 28 gauge DH. All 3 super nice but the asking prices limited me to just window shopping. I also enjoyed looking at the four or five .410 bore VH/Es the fellow had on his table, but they weren't priced and I didn't ask. I didn't buy anything firearm related and feel like I failed the course. :(

Kevin McCormack 05-02-2018 09:22 AM

Oh yeah; forgot - also got a very early A.H. Fox C-grade 12 ga. 26" straight grip SFE DT quail gun (CYL&IC) that came out of Florida with not much original finish but beautiful engraving and a VERY friendly price!

Rich Anderson 05-02-2018 10:22 AM

I also bought two OH Osthaus prints now I need to find a place to put them:shock: They will probably go to the the cabin.

Randy the VHE 32 inch gun sounds nice.
I saw the Fox Kevin mentioned and it's a beauty. He ended up consigning it to Steve Barnett and that's the gentleman who bought my DH live bird gun.

I shot 500 targets over three and a half days with a cart at Drakes for $225:)

Rick Losey 05-02-2018 10:30 AM

Did you mean Edmund Osthaus?

I have not published any prints

Which ones did you get. ( I won't ask for pictures )

After asking -I realized the description will likely be. It's the one with two setters :rotf:

Rich it's just a solid original gun with a lot of choke and cc in the protected areas only. Bought it because I'm a sucker for long barreled small bores and it can take a little pressure off the D grade 32" 16. Fits me good and I shot it well on the practice 5 stand.

Rich Anderson 05-02-2018 12:58 PM

Rick only one print has two setters the other has one setter and a hunter with flushing quail. They were advertisements for United Shoe Service in Wallingford Conn circa 1940's. The quail/setter is by Hintermeister the two setters are Osthaus.

Bill Graham 05-02-2018 01:37 PM

1887 #1 frame 12ga Parker hammergun from Mr. Nickerson
2 issues of DGJ (one I didn't know I already had)
Red Deep River t-shirt
LC Smith Collectors t-shirt (would have bought a Parker, didn't see any)
3 dents raised by Mr. Hosford
6 steak tacos

Wanted to buy a beat up PH to refurbish, but no one was buying what I was selling to pay for it.

Brian Dudley 05-02-2018 02:37 PM

I picked up a few of those cow tongue tacos. they tasted great. But did look like tongue.

I dodged the rain and quickly took some pics of the CHE 16. One frame 30 inch barrels M/F. It still retains quite a bit of color and the pheasant on the floor plate is a big improvement over the more common stag.

Let's see, I bought 5 flats of shells from RST in 12, 16, 20 and .410. Why .410 you might ask? Because this beauty also followed me home. 4lbs 1oz, Charles Hellis, Straight Grip, 26" choked full and full. I also dropped off a gun to have some work done, and left a case with Kevin to be fixed up as well. Thanks to a fellow Fox member, I also got to shoot a round at Drake Landing with a screaming 20ga Fox Sterlingworth with 32" barrels (Hens Teeth)! On Sunday when everyone left, I tossed 14 empty bottles of bourbon, and two empty boxes of Cigars in the trash. All in all, it was a good weekend!

Mike

Mills, what is the serial number. I own a 12 gauge back action, numer 286, that I purchased from Austen Hogan many moons ago.

Mills Morrison 05-02-2018 04:37 PM

I asked about the 410’s there were five . Two capped PG one single trigger , and three with round PG two of which were single trigger . They were priced 30-45 G’s . The guy also had a VH 10 gauge fluid steel 3 1/2” if memory serves it was 11 or 12 G’s .

Eric, is the 28ga VH an "0" frame or an "00"? I'm currently working with a "00" with bulged barrels. :cuss:

Tried out the back action last night. Didn't have the Charlie Cleveland Dr Pepper cans, so used some empty shotgun shell boxes. Did well and going turkey hunting this weekend
