PGCA meeting and hotels?
I am wonder what people expect may change when we attend the PGCA meeting or other gun related events where we take our guns; will hotels welcome us with our guns following what took place in Vegas? They have previously but will they continue to do so? After the Vegas shooting, the talking heads on TV were in a state of shock that a hotel would allow a man to enter with a gun let alone stacks of them wheeled in on carts. They were exclaiming that hotels should have security screening  "somehow"??
But, I have seen our members, and I have, taken guns into a room when attending a large gun event. We have had hospitality room gatherings of PGCA members where many Parkers were passed around and traded hands. I'm curious if we might expect to be turned away at the door when we try to protect our valuable Parkers by taking them into a room with us for a night. Thoughts and/or recent experiences? |
I have never had a problem.

It is a concern. I hope things do not change.

Some states such as New York aren't gun friendly in the first place which is why when going to Earnie's shoot several of us stay in PA. I think in states such as NY you might see a policy shift.

There were certainly plenty of guns being hauled through the Westgate during the Winter Antique & Sporting Arms Show in Las Vegas.

Where do you stay in PA when you are going to Ernie's? We are comfortable with taking guns into the hotel in New York. Are we violating some law?
|
You could carry a thermonuclear device in a plain black hard impact plastic trunk through the lobby of virtually any hotel/motel I've stayed in for the last 45 years of doing gun shows and no one was ever the wiser. While on travel for work, we wheeled the black plastic oblong display cases that held our tubular wall exhibits all over the country. As I recall, a main concern for the "medium-Michelin-rated" establishments were how long were you going to be using the rolling garment rack carts, and always were admonished to "make sure you put them back where you found them." Go back and look at the Las Vegas security cam tapes and watch how, over the course of 3-4 days, the shooter was able to stockpile his "arsenal of weapons" (LOVE MSNBC!!). He had hotel staff holding doors open for him.

There should not be any problems with guns in hotels or motels in New York. Concerns are not based in any law or regulation. I regularly attend events in NY with guns both long and handguns with no problems. Let's not see boggy men where they are not!

We stay at The Inn in Montrose PA. There is a nice bar/restaurant right downstairs.

When and where is the PGCA meeting?
|
What are you referring to George?
|
I don't know what meeting is being referred to. The BOD has a meeting in Sanford but that's the only meeting I know about. The annual PGCA meeting/banquet is at the Vintagers in September.

While at Hausmann's some of us stay in Vestal, NY and in the evenings on the lawn by the pool we have very informal "meetings" where we attempt to solve the problems of the world.
That's the only meeting I've ever attended while at Ernie's. . |
Hausmann's is an event I want to attend someday hopefully soon

You absolutely need to come this June Mills!
Trust me when I say this. . |
Absolutely Mills, you really should come and enjoy the best shoot of the season (although Mike Koneski's shoot in August ain't too shabby either). Just think, you can relax, shoot lots of targets and the breeze, and not be bothered by that pesky challenge thingy you're running at Sanford. There you can witness a real challenge event; Fox vs. Lefever, winner take all and the Bo-Whoop long bird event:cool: To top it all off after the smokepoles are put away we have a real tailgate(s) party. Bring the wife and kids. You won't be sorry.

Daryl's right, it is very wife-and-family oriented... as long as they are just a bit flexible.
