20ga Lifter at Julia's auction
I was just looking at the Parker's listed for tomorrows auction in Maine. I am not going to bid BUT I will be watching item #1314. It is a 20 gauge lifter presented in a nice case and it has an estimate value set at $12,500 - $17,500. If it sells in that range, I think I'll be kicking myself for not bidding. But, I have to draw a line somewhere so ..... it's a time in my life to think of selling and not buying so I'll just be watching from the sidelines.
A 20 ga. lifter is a rare bird indeed. Going on the data in The Parker Story, Parker only made 54 20 ga. hammer guns in all grades total (lifter + top lever) and of those only 13 were lifters (all grades) and of those only 4 were grade two guns. So, this gun is one of 4 grade 2 in 20 gauge! This gun has been worked on but being so rare, I think it will sell higher than the estimate???? I have been told that the market is soft now, so maybe they are correct, but it will be interesting to watch this one!!!! I may just drive up to watch this one sell. FYI - for those that don't know me, I like Parker hammer guns and the lifters are my favorite of them all. |
I have cased two for a member. One was a grade 3, the other, the very first Parker 20ga, was a $250 grade. Both were on display on his table at Baltimore this weekend.

Yea I owned this gun and sold it to Daryl, hope to get it back today! gary
|
It is a beautiful and exceedingly rare gun for sure but the thing that sets it off (for me anyway) from other rare guns, and most probably a unique feature on any 20 gauge hammer gun, is the beautiful Parker-made (P) Laminated barrels.

good luck Gary

Gary, good luck and I hope you get it. Thanks so much for filling me in on the information about Daryl last weekend at the Baltimore Show. He was a great friend and I really miss him.
|
Well Guys I did get the little twenty, glad for it to be back home , Gary

It is good to know that Daryl's favorite guns are finding new, caring custodians, we just wish it could have been under different circumstances.

It comes full circle Gary congratulations:bowdown:

Your new H&H is a very sweet gun! Congratulations. You got a real bargain that should serve you well for many years. |

H&H will give you a letter on it. |
From what I remember talking to Daryl he said it was built as a 28 ga shotgun, I will probably check with H&H after I get the gun.
|
I do believe Edgar is correct.
|
You guys might be right I'm not sure, it will be interesting to find out though.
|
Well done Gary. What a gem for your collection and I'm glad that it went to you where we can see it from time to time. Nice display at the Balto. show by the way.
|
Eric, congrats on the H&H Daryl shot the gun several times at the Hendry Co sheriff range where we shot skeet in Florida thats a real nice gun I hope it will bring you as much pleasure as it did Daryl guess I need to have another Gin and Tonic for my old friend, Gary

This time of year being basketball tourney time and hearing Dick Vitale groan on, Jim Valvano's moving speech comes to mind. "If everyday you laugh, you think and you cry, then that's a hell of a day"
Sounds like yesterday was a great day when people are thinking of their friend Daryl and their shared joy of classic SxS's. |
I think I said it before, but "Thanks Gary for the great display at Baltimore".

Gary, Let me echo the sentiments of Daryl and Bill; That was the best display of Vintage Guns I recall seeing in my 12 years of that show. I give you tons of credit for staying at the table and speaking to everyone. Did you ever get time to walk around the big room?

This thread would be a lot better with photos.
|
Plenty of high quality pictures in the catalog. #1314

I don't know how they came up with the appraised value of 12-17K, that seems awfully low for such a rare gun. Just another sales ploy I guess:whistle:
|
I'm hoping that someone in Daryl's family has and appreciates the awesome black wolf pelt I sent him 10 yrs ago. I know he sure liked it.
The 20ga lifter Gary got is absolutely gorgeous and would make me a great ptarmigan gun! I like the Annie Oakley takedown Marlin levergun too; great airplane gun! These auction lists sure are some serious eye candy. |
Does anyone remmember what the CH 10 gauge 3 1/2” brought ?
|
Prices are posted and can be seen on line.
|
Correct me if I'm wrong . But if there's no price beside a gun that means it didn't meet the reserve . If that is the case that CH sold a good bit less then I was expecting .
|
I am more than surprised at the results, I expected it to be at least 2 times its hammer price. But that's auctions .....
|
I am going to request that Julia double package the little twenty lifter, I sure do not want anything to happen to it, guess I am getting a little gun shy, Gary
|
Good idea Gary! That little gun is special and would never be worth whatever insurance would pay, let alone it's loss. You got a great gun! I'm glad I didn't go to watch it sell, I don't think I could have remained in control of my hand, if you know what I mean.
 Congratulations! |
