Don't you often wonder about those folks posting on this great forum? You get a feel for their personality just by the way they post. For example, cant you just hear that good old country boy twang in Charlie Cleveland's posts--would like to meet him someday.I often click on the member profile just to see where they are from and their interests. Many of you feel like friends, but we have never met. I would like if all of us could update their profiles. I was looking at Steve Hodges beautiful SW Deluxe 16 today( shameless, unpaid plug for you Steve), and clicked on Phil Yearout's profile--got quite a kick out of your "Museum curator" occupation--and hey, my latest passion is fingerstyle guitar also--lunch time is occupied by perusing the ParkerForums and playing a little guitar, todays song was the classic Beseme Mucho.
So, if you get a chance, put a little about yourself in the profile, so even if we never meet, we will still feel like we know each other.

Harold ...I like your post and thoughts on this....An album might be a nice way to "get to know people" without meeting them. LIke Brian's pictures of his new beautiful office and shop.

Just a thought...Marty

I'm with Harold. I really enjoy the photos of hunting cover and dogs in addition to all the fantastic guns. Often I'll see a photo of some nice cover and wonder where it is located and all too often the poster does not list where he lives. A search of the membership list is often a bust as well. Surprising how many members are not on the list. It sure would be wonderful to have a more detailed member profile.

About 8 years ago I posted some photos of some nice locations, interesting town and good bird harvest. The next year there were a lot of people there who told me they learned about the place off the Internet . I’m pretty vague about locations any more .

For example right now as I type this we have 35 forum members on and 280 non forum members whom we have no idea who they are. There are usually many more lurkers than people we know something about.

Out west where bird dogs don’t have dog license tags.

Harold,

I also enjoy getting "know" other members through their profiles and albums. You've inspired me to attempt my first album. Thanks for the encouragement.

I think it would be nice to include a member profile for PP contributors at the end of their articles. I think it would personalize the work.

Great idea Craig.

A brief one would be fine, with particulars supplied by the contributor/author.

Bruce I do so appreciate the photos you post and I fully understand your position. However, folks do not need to be so specific about the locations. Something like NW Kansas would be close enough to get a feel for the geography and cover a particular part of our great and diverse country has to offer.

When members set up their profile I feel they should be considerate enough to list at least the city where they reside.

Dean Romig 03-18-2018 10:13 AM

That would make it simpler but we each receive a membership roster with every fall issue of Parker Pages with most member's addresses, some even with email addresses and a few with telephone numbers.

Bruce Day 03-18-2018 10:14 AM

PGCA members addresses are listed in the directory which is sent out yearly with Parker Pages. Why isn’t that sufficient?

Oops. I see Dean and I were responding at the same time and in the same manner.

Dean Romig 03-18-2018 10:17 AM

Ha! We were both thinking the same thing and typing at the same time.

On numerous occasions I have looked up members on the list and not found them. In a few instances that I can recall I know the individuals had been posting for more than a year so they are not newbies.

This whole thing is not a big deal. If some individuals wish to keep their location private, so be it. I just like to see where people are located what kind of country they hunt in and what for. And, as Harold suggested to put a face with names.

Dean Romig 03-18-2018 09:35 PM

Okay, how do we start an alphabetically searchable member profile page?
It certainly should only be in the Members Only section of the forum.

I'll sign on with pics and information if it can be set up the way I suggested.

Could there not be a new section on the Members Only side of the forum titled “Who Are We” or similar, where members could write a small bio of themselves with interesting tidbits and photos to their own past and present selves and their interests?

Harold Lee Pickens 03-19-2018 11:06 AM

This has morphed into a little more than I had intentioned when I made my original post. Dean, you do enough already, and dont think we need to add any more to your plate. I really didnt mean phone, address, SS#, gun safe combination, and hunting spot GPS coordinates--although you could send them in a pm if you like. Was just trying to become more familiar with those posting frequently on this forum.

Mike Franzen 03-19-2018 12:07 PM

Don’t forget about this created by RobinLewis. The Geo link is a great tool to find members if you have the roster.

Dean Romig 03-19-2018 04:30 PM

If you open up the Member map link that Robin created for us and zoom in to northeast Massachusetts, one of the member dots you can click on is 1204 in Andover Ma.
1204 is me and I just started a post titled "Testing 1204"
Open that thread and you will see that I identified myself there and I can add pictures and various personal preferences, hunting and shooting places I frequent, actually just about anything about myself I care to make public.

Anyone can do this. All they need to do is use your member number in the title of the thread with a blank space (space bar) on either side of their member number.
