Dented Barrel
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, guys. I feel certain that this question has been asked before, but i cannot find a thread title. I have a VHE that fell over and the left barrel was dented. the dent can be seen from inside the bore but does not look obstructive. Is this something a good gunsmith can remedy without effecting the blueing? The dent does not seem to be effecting the pattern with RST#5's. has anyone had experience with a minor ding effecting the pattern? Please see the attached photo and thank you in advance for any feedback.

It needs to be repaired. It looks like a straightforward dent-lifting job but there is a fair chance the bluing might be slightly compromised in the process.

Looks like a John Hosford job.

Thank you, gentleman. Any idea as to a price range to fix?
|
Minimal. John Hosford removed three small dents on my 20 gauge Damascus barrels a couple of years ago while we were at Hausmann's for $50 while I waited.

We've lifted a few on guns I've bought that were dented .
Mostly we use a tool thing Doc Lehew owns . But Gent Mitchell had a set of what I would call precision steel plugs that I've seen some folks use , although we've never tried that technique so far . Now I'm okay with the tap tap tap dent lifting , BUT is there a relatively easy way to fix slight bulges ? Don't have any bulged barrels so far knock on wood , but I'd like to know should the need ever arise ! |
THANKS GUYS. I have googled Mr Hosford and will be contacting him

some one posted on here hoy to fix bulged barrels..i remember the post and most of the details...charlie

I think I posted my plug technique a number of years back after I removed a bunch of dents from a vintage Ithaca damascus set and an LC Smith S/S. I can't remember right now what those steel plugs are even called.

Was it called a pin gage set?
|
Yes Bob. Thank you.
