28 gauge VH pricing.

What would you value this 28 gauge at?

Check out what I found on GunBroker.com! https://www.gunbroker.com/item/739573959

Rode hard and put up wet. No collector value that I can see. If you want to shoot it as is, you have to compare it against other shootable 28's, including reproductions. Maybe 4K, maybe 3.5. Someone might pay more, but not me. JMHO

It has certainly seen a lot of (ab)use...

0-frame size, extractors, possibly a replacement stock? The stock it wears sure doesn't fit at all well.

It would be a very expensive project gun.

I contacted them and know the reserve I was just curious what everyone thought.. Not too many 28 gauges listed on the different sites to figure out a reasonable price.

Kirk Potter 01-20-2018 02:08 PM

Also you’re about $10k under what they value it at.

Brian Dudley 01-20-2018 02:14 PM

The last time i inquired with that seller, he told me the reserve was around $30,000.

That was about a year and a half ago. And the gun will sit for a lot longer. Just another pawnshop owner looking to get rich.

Ha, didn’t know it had been listed for that long.. Current reserve is $14,750.

I bought a similar gun, in much better overall condition, for 6K a few years ago, privately valuing it in my mind as an 8 or 9 K gun. I shot it at clays, it fit and shot well, but it sat in my safe for two years because I always went to my 16 ga guns for birds. I didnt have enough confidence to take out the smaller gauge. I sold it for 6K "buy it now" on GB, just to get my money back out of it and let someone else enjoy the bargain. I dont regret selling it at that price. No way is a shooter VH 28ga worth twice as much as a repro 28 ga. JMHO

According to the description, an "excellent condition" gun!

Been cruising gun boards for 20+ years and I have never had an opportunity to buy a V-28 for a fair, let along great price.

Brian Dudley 01-20-2018 05:58 PM

Well, at his current reserve, half that would not be a great price.

Kevin McCormack 01-20-2018 07:23 PM

A very nice $1600-1800 gun that needs about $5500-6000 worth of work.

Mark Ray 01-20-2018 11:34 PM

I bid that gun to $4,000 about 2 years ago, bedore i cried voluntary uncle! The gun is in atrocious condition. I was SO thankful that my $4k bid did not make the reserve!!

How do you define "fair" or "great price"? Small bore guns in good condition always bring big money no matter if it's a Parker, Winchester, or Fox. Years ago I lusted for a VHE 410 skeet gun and would have paid the price of a new car for one. I found a CSM Fox FE for a lot less. Not a collector gun but still a very nice gun.

A couple of years ago I purchased an all original 70% CC
VHE 28ga 28" from Mid South Guns for $12,000 and feel that is a fair price. This one-$ 3.5-$4.5.

David, I think you did exceptionally well on that deal!

Did they have a new guy on the counter that day?

.

David Dwyer 01-21-2018 03:24 PM

Yes,OO frame and actually I purchased it from Phil.
He was making up for another deal where an all original 28ga two barrel set turned out to not be legit. I am fortunate to also have a VHE 28ga, OO 30" SS all original with 75%CC. Next to the Parkers I found an AYA top grade 28ga ejector made in 1940, unfired.Love those 28ga but my absolute fav is the Parker 28ga ,30, SS hammer gun, obviously not original
David

David Dwyer 01-21-2018 03:25 PM

Actually the 28ga 28" Parker is a VH

Marty Kohler 01-21-2018 03:37 PM

David.............wow that was a steal......would you like to sell it and make some money?....

David Dwyer 01-22-2018 07:21 AM

Sorry Marty. I did that with my AHE , CHE & DHE 28ga to a friend that now has a vertical 28 ga collection missing only an AIS. The VH 28ga will be at Drakes Landing in 2 weeks killing quail!
David

Marty Kohler 01-22-2018 07:37 PM

Yeah..... But David you have 2........;)

David Dwyer 01-23-2018 08:35 AM

Marty
Actually I am trying to sell the straight grip 30 inch gun. I paid $22,000 for that one due to the rarity of that configuration and condition. My best offer so far was $20K but very happy to keep it rather than lose money.
David
