Here is a 1917 ad from The American Shooter magazine for The Parker Single Barrel Trapgun...

Has anyone ever seen a forend shaped like that with the groove?

I haven't either. But as they say "you never say no they didn't do that if it is a Parker" and that ad just proves the point.

The ad is from the middle of the year 1917, may have just been the first design for Parker to advertise to the public...

I was thinking the same thing as soon as i saw that. Never physically seen an example. And i dont think there was a forend like that pictured in a formal Parker catalog. I may be wrong on that though.

This ad is from 1919. In 1917, Fred Gilbert took delivery of a Parker SBT SN 180116

I had a 1918 SC with a straight stock and no FE grove.

It is difficult to tell in that photo if the gun is even a Parker.

I agree with Dean. Sure looks like an Ithaca. I used to own 180115 the gun made one number before Fred Gilbert’s gun. Also a 32” straight grip gun.

de Mund`s holding is a Parker SBT :)

Randy, how are you so sure? The photo is poor but the general shape of the frame walls don't look Parkerish to me, the height of the frame is too high. I would think with all the surviving Parker SBT's, we would have seen one by now. If one does exist, I'd like to see a modern photo of one.

Certainly appears to me that I can see the mono-bloc style breech to the barrel as found on the Flues Model Ithaca SBT or the early Baker SBTs. Shape of the receiver looks more Ithaca Flues to these old eyes.

Definately not a Smith, they have a Schnable forend. Could be a Westley Richards , I had one years ago but it was restocked. I think it had a sculptured side but it's been too long ago. Did Daly's have a scalloped frame? If the picture was from 1917, we could rule out some manufactures or models. I'll have to look at my American Single Barrell book to see if there are any similar guns in it or maybe Randy, you have already looked.

Westley Richards SBTs. I can't tell if de Mund's has a VR. Distinctive angle at the front of the action and I think Chuck might be correct. Still can't 'splain the FE goove.

Yup Drew, your second picture is what I had. The gun was garbage but that's a different story and one I'd like to forget! I learned a very valuable lesson.

Chuck, the photo was taken at the 1917 Grand. I did take a look through Conley`s book, which only covers American SBT`s. Don`t know about the forend either... Thanks Drew for the Westley SBT photos. Seeing a few more
examples I do believe he is holding a Westley Richards SBT
