Lefever Nitro Special Squirrel Gun
1 Attachment(s)
Here's a shot of my .410 Lefever Nitro Special and yesterday's only fox squirrel.
The gun has 26" barrels marked 2 & 4. (Modified and Full) It was the first time in a many years since I've been squirrel hunting. He was about sixty feet up in a Shagbark Hickory on my place. A 3" SuperX six did the trick. They don't seem real thick in this woods. |
Nice little gun!

Nice! I always seemed to have trouble killing them outright with the 410, even with bigger shot. All our squirrels are town squirrels, not many in the woods.
nice gun and a big squirl...do you eat your squirls...charlie
I will eat this one Charlie, it seems like a young one. I'd like to accumulate a few more. I heard one barking this afternoon, but it wasn't on my place. I'm looking for suggestions as to how to fix 'em. I didn't even see or hear the Piney that's usually around. There are Black Walnut trees, Buckeyes, and Oak trees in my woods. The Walnuts are just now starting to drop here. All of the leaves are still thick here.

That is a neat little gun!
Charlie, I weighed the Fox Squirrel I got yesterday right after I shot it, it weighed 2 pounds even.
You will have to deduct some weight for shot.
that was a big squirl...the fox squirl is scarse in my county lots of grays... young fox and grey squirls are good eating but old ones are good for dumplings only...charlie
I had a friend in Indiana that use to throw them in a pressure cooker and then make biscuits and squirrel gravy.
Charlie, That squirrel was sort of small, as was yesterday's. I've had bigger ones. Wayne, the pressure cooker sounds like a good idea, the wife has a good one, but I'm on my own cooking and eating them... :banghead:
you boys are makeing me hungary and it aint even supper time yet....charlie
I love the little Nitro Special .410. It's a good way for us common folk to get into a .410 SxS, without having to hit the lotto.
