Parker Muzzel Loader Better Pictures

5 Attachment(s)
Finnaly got some good Digital Pictures. Signature on side sure looks the same as a "PARKER BROS" !!! ???

I have an old Parker muzzel loader double barrel. The only markings are
PARKER on both side plates. It has working curly lock hammers ,dbl triggers,
42 inch barrels with 58 inches overall end of barrel to buttplate. I would
say it has 90%+ of the blueing on metal and stain / varnish on wood. The
wooden ramrod is missing but a friend's granddad said he would shoot it ,
just needed a peice of wire to clean out cap holes & some black powder. I
said no , he's 94 yrs old. Story is told that a great, great, great......
grandfather captured it during The Cival War and it killed 26 Yanks in 1 day
on a bayou in Louisianna. I have had in closet for 40 years. Can get wife to
take a couple pics when she gets home tonight if you want ! Anybody know how I
could get it appraised ?

That thing shows some care in its past, not the big gaps between wood and metal, nor the checkering worn flat or invisible that most old fowlers show. It is not made by the company we study and collect, but it's not a bad gun. Appraisal? I don't think you need one. It's worth more than $100 and probably not more than $450 and it will look pretty good above anyone's fireplace. If it turns out to be British, it will be worth a bit more than if it is Belgian in origin.

Parker Muzzle loader

I have the same gun in my collection. They were made in Belgium and exported to the USA. The Parker Bros. didnot make a muzzle loader. Sorry.

Buddy Stroud 08-03-2010 10:10 AM

James thanks for writing ! Belgium ??? Does your say "FINE LONDON TWIST" on top of the barrels ?

james van blaricum 08-03-2010 11:30 AM

London Parker

You are correct and I am wrong, it must be the 110 degree heat we are having.
Sorry!!!!!

yoi

proofs

these don't all date back to the muzzleloader age, but they will give you an idea of the style British Vs Belgium.

Look on the underside of the barrels, ahead of the breech plugs. They will be covered by the foreend

Buddy: Just because the top rib reads" LONDON FINE TWIST" does not necessarily mean that the gun was made in England. When you look at the proofs you will probably see an "LG" perhaps in a diamond. That would mean that the barrels were made and proofed in Liege, Belgium. Nice Fireplace Decoration or Wallhanger.

Best regards, George

Hey Men ,, Thanks for all the help !!!! Trying to get my collection moved to my house from Dad's ,, need a $ estimate on all of em for insurance and got 34 guns priced ! If anybody can help me put a guesstimate on last 3 guns I would appreciate it. one is this old muzzel loader we been talkin about. 2nd is an Old LC Smith 2-holer with the curly lock hammers very good shape and I shoot it , And the 3rd is hardest, can't find any info on it ? It's a Browning Whitetail Commemorative #100 of 600 inlayed in Gold on reciever and still in it's custom Walnut Case. It was presented to my Father about 30 years ago.
Thanks Again , Buddy

I agree with Bill Murphy's estimate several posts ago on this thread, that $450 is probably tops.

Leighton Stallones 08-05-2010 11:17 AM

Buddy,
Believe it. It is not a "Parker" ,but an imported farmers gun made in Belgium. Nice for the Fireplace etc.

Buddy Stroud 08-05-2010 12:11 PM

I beleive it Ya'll , just wanted to know what to put on Insurance form ! I'll put approx. $400 ?
Thanks Guys

Dean Romig 08-05-2010 12:17 PM

I dunno if I'd pay a monthly or quarterly premium on insuring it..... pretty soon you will have paid more in insurance premiums than the value of the gun....

Buddy Stroud 08-05-2010 12:38 PM

Dean , I got 37 guns , I think ! LOL Greg, my insurance guy has added them to my homeowners insurance but sugested I list, describe, and appraise each one. Still need appraisal on LC Smith and Browning Whitetail Commemorative.
Thanks

English Parker Rifle

There is a ca 1840 English Parker percussion rifle in a museum near here. Fairly high quality gun. The English Parker gunmaker made some good guns in the early 19th century. There is no similarity among the English Parker SxS and a Parker Bros gun.

Best, Austin

Drew Hause 08-05-2010 06:45 PM

Likely William Parker, who was a gunmaker from 1790 until 1840 and one of the forerunners of Parker, Field & Sons. As Bro. Losey explained, proof marks would confirm the origin, although those were faked also
