ph forend removal?
 

Hi all,

I love this web sites info and picts!
I have 1 parker a ph 2xxxxx no. fine gun, good shooter, but I cannot remove the fore end when I want to!! I have to fumble with it for many tries to remove it? Is there a process to consistantly remove it when I want to?

I think your Parker may have Parker Steel barrels and could have ejectors (the shells are flung from the barrels afterbeing shot). Open the gun to make sure it is unloaded (this also cocks the hammers as well as the ejectors). Close the gun and pull the lever in the center of the forend and it should com right off.

I too, cannot remove my forearm on my 197249 - 1922 - "plain/jane" - I'm trying to
follow the steps on this site - so I can discern the rest of the "stamps"!

No ejectors, it comes off if I constantly fiddle with it! And I mean alot of fiddling!

According to the serialization book you have a 12 gauge Parker Trojan. In order to remove the barrels you have to pull the foreend off by grasping the barrells in your left hand and pulling the foreend from the top toward you. Some Trojan foreends can be difficult. Once the foreend is off the barrels should detach when you open the action. Hope this helps.

It must be stuck. Sorry I had to say that, Squeeze real hard with hand below latch and frame and then try the latch and pull .

I just put my finger in te SLOT between the Bbl. the wood, with my other hand grabbing the barrels (just about 6" above my hand) , and then- PULLED LIKE I MEANT IT!
SHAZAM...IT CAME OFF! That's it, BILL.
When in doubt......take directions, private!

A word of caution here...jerking the for end wood forcefully could damage or crack it.

Oh, sorry....let me reiterate: "gently overcoming, with just enough inertia to release the
staunch friction of superb inletting", and then clean the metal and lightly oil.
Of course, we know that "jerking" one's wood could release anything too prematurely and cause inappropriate separation.

I do not have a trojan I have a ph that has a very hard to remove forend!

Bill Erickson - If your barrels are undamaged, the too-snug fit on your forearm is likely due to a build-up of finish/patina/rust/dirt or whatever on the back-end of the front barrel lug. Next time you get the thing off, take a very fine grit sandpaper and LIGHTLY rub the back surface of the lug. I have refinished a few damascus barrels and even a few thou build-up of new finish can interrup the smooth removal and replacement of the forend resulting in my having to take the finish down to where the forend fits again. Have your barrels been redone at all? Is the forend difficult to put back on?

What Ed said, but don't remove any metal or you may encounter problems of a different sort. :eek:
