Unique, one-of-a-kind 20 GA. ?
I've inherited what I believe to be a unique, maybe one of a kind 20ga Parker Repro' 3 barrel set, and was hoping someone on this forum may be able to add to my limited knowledge of these guns?
The gun was purchased by my father on June 24 1988 from Paul Jaeger, Inc. in Grand Junction TN. The gun was new in a carrying case and at that date was claimed to be the ONLY 3-barrel set Parker Repro' manufactured. Serial # is 20-4440. It had been special ordered by a man from Dallas Texas. I also have a letter from Jack T. Skeuse, Vice President of Parker Reproductions Sales, dated July 5, 1988, stating this was the only 3 barrel set produced as of that date. I've been told there are other three barrel sets available today. But I'm wondering if this was the FIRST, would that add anything to it's value? It has never been fired and is in excellent condition. My dad, David M. Duffey, was a very well known author, outdoor writer, and Dog Editor of Outdoor Life and other magazines. He wrote about 10 different books on training hunting dogs. Would his ownership add anything to it's value? Thank you for any input or information. |
Well... if you have factory documentation stating the fact, then so be it.
But... my thoughts are that maybe it was the only 3 barrel set in 20g. or in all 20g. Maybe other existed in other gauges? And/or, only 3 barrel set AT THAT TIME as you said. Because there certainly are other 3 barrel sets out there now. |
Mike...
That's pretty cool. I loved your dad's writing and have many of his books in my library. |
I think all of that gun's provenance adds something to its value.

Mike, the gun was special ordered for a Jaeger customer who did not take it.I left Jaegers in March of 1988 to start Game Fair Ltd in Nashville. The gun was sold after I left, but I placed the order.I remember the gun because it was special ordered and the customer was a pain to deal with. After all the trouble,he backed out of the deal just before the gun was delivered.

:nono:unique one of a kind REPRODUCTION. I don't get that
|
I imagine it would be sort of like if someone reproduced the "Clown" Catalog.
|
With one copy only. Then it would be a unique (one of a kind) Clown Catalogue Repro.
That's how that works. . |
Ok... like a paper reproduction machine but one of a kind:rotf:

Please post all the specs of your set. Gauge and barrel length. There are many multi gauge 3 barrel sets in 410/28 and 20/16 I do not recall seeing any three barrel 20 gauge only sets offered for sale. Thanks SXS Ohio...

Kenny, you can find the specs in a post which were stated 3 1/2 years ago here the forum by Mr. Duffey when he was looking for a valuation of the gun.

Thanks Wild Skies......This would have been a non catalog item that would have needed all the barrels to have the same S.N. Other than that all the components were available to assemble. I am surprised that more sets were not sold with all the barrel options and chokes like this set. The added cost $$$ may have played a big part in it or the venders did not push the idea and the buying public did not know guns could be special ordered outside the norms. thanks all SXS Ohio

Unique Parker Specs?
Here are the "specs" I have on the 20GA 3 barrel set:
20 GA - 3 barrell set 2 barrels are 26" and One is 28" 28" barrel is stamped Mod & Full and 2 3/4 & 3" Both 26" barrels are 2 3/4 only One is stamped IMP & MOD The other says Q1 & Q2 All 3 have same serial#: 20-04440 Purchased 6/24/88 from Paul Jaeger, Inc. Grand Junction Tennessee Have original sales receipt, Parker Repro booklet, etc. |
Tried to post specs but don't see them in this thread?? I'm a 66yo TOTAL TECHNO-IDIOT so may have done something wrong. In reference to the smart asses who were making fun of my use of "unique" I ASSUMED being the "only" one of it's kind at purchase and possibly the FIRST if more were produced later qualified it as "unique" or "one-of-a-kind?" Excuse me if I'm stupid or naive. :-(

OOPS! Guess it did post. :-) THANKS Wild Skies for the LINKS to my previous posts. Plan to advertise for sale but apparently have to join first. Will try to do that soon.

Three Barrel Set
I don't recall ever seeing a three barrel set with all barrels being 20GA. And I also believe your father owning the gun certainly adds to the value. He was a very good writer and I enjoyed reading his works and getting his insight. I would love to own one of his guns.
