Recent Rock Island Auction
Good Morning,
Did anyone attend or bid on guns from this weekend's Rock Island auction? I went to the preview day and parts of Saturday's and Sunday's auction. There were a good number of Parkers of all kinds -- original condition, upgrades, reproductions. Several 8 gauge Parkers, both hammer and hammerless, and some nice 410s (for those who covet those). A really nice N 10 gauge built on a #6 frame was a highlight for me (I did not bid on it as I was holding out for another Parker down the line...and my wife was sitting next to me, if you understand what I mean...). I thought this gun was an 8 gauge it was so large and heavy (notes said 12 lbs. 12 oz.) It was a very nice gun. There were some real bargains in my opinion, and some that went for premium prices (the 8s and 410s, of course). I managed to win a nice 10 gauge grade 3 and a really nice G grade 12 built on a #1 frame (I thought it was a 16 when I first saw it a picked it up). Just curious if anyone else participated in the auction and what your thoughts are (and if you got any treasures from the auction). |
I bought the N 10 #6 frame. It was nice to hear your opinion of the gun. According to the Parker letter it went to Hatcechubbee AL on 12/12/1902. Thanks

I will shoot ducks and geese with it this fall with my handloads, 1 1/4oz Bismuth. I have a soft spot for the big guns. A few years back I was thinking about an 8ga but they can't be used for waterfowl and the big 10's can still be used which is half the fun of owning these old guns.

Craig, does your letter tell you that the gun was made as a ten gauge or rebarrelled from eight gauge?

Made as a 10ga

The true sign of a seriously dedicated auction bidder is doing his research well in advance of the auction date. e.g., the letter.

Going to Alabama I would bet that the big gun was Mr.Sankey's turkey gun.

Is there a way to see what guns sold and the price they sold for?

Rock Island will post the sale price information on each gun at some point after the auction. You can check their site: https://www.rockislandauction.com It will probably take a day or two for this information to come up. You can also see past auction sale information from this site. |
Thank you

The 6 frame 10ga came today. The barrels marked are 8--4. Bores are .780 with .042 choke in both barrels. All original condition exactly what the letter states. Wood and checkering are very good and solid. The auction description said cylinder bores and the dimensions were 3 3/8" DAC! Actually it has 1 3/8" DAC and 2 1/2" DAH and full chokes. Yeah have to do your homework since they make cataloging errors. Great duck gun I'm very happy. A little work with the Frontier pad and she cleaned up nice. It will need a newly roll pin but I knew that, Brian Dudley will get a call. All is good.

Craig, you are the man. I have a couple of them that you have seen and handled at Ernies.
