12 backpacker load
I believe it was Harry Collins who gave me one year's ago. I need Pheasant load for me old border line unsafe barreled lifter. Shot it a bunch so I render it safe especially with black powder. The only smokeless loads I've shot is that 1 oz lite loads. with 55 construction in choke it does the job if your on. Backpacker spellchecker did it. black powder load.

Are those .055" tubes rifled?? . |
The bores are .775 .720 at muzzle u tell me.
Charlie yes you Did that was a fun time for sure. So 3 Drams of f. 1 oz of shot? |
I would go 2 3/4 drams of 2F BP with 1 oz of shot

Thank You Frank.

in what way do you clean the black powder in your gun...charlie
|
I use a garden hose on my 8ga Belgium gun. (and I am serious).
|
warm weather - garden hose.
cold weather - I hold the barrels near the shower head in the shower. Tub will get dirty but rinses away easy.... next....brush and clean with Ballistol. as I'm doing that I'm boiling water on the stove. I get a funnel and pour the hot water into each barrel. This does a clean water rinse and the hot water heats the barrels burning off any condensation. Oven mit to hold barrels is necessary..... next... oil the bores. next.... reload more shells. |
My gun is well used so I am not quite as efficient, Charlie. There way is very good. I just use hot water on old piece of tee-shirt wrapped around a 12 gauge brush 5 or so times till clean, then a couple dry ones when good and dry, tee-shirt oily patch down barrels couple times, wipe gun with oily patch when done with barrels. I believe the mercury primers were a lot harder on the barrels than the black? but don't get me wrong you need to keep clean! ch

You can save some money by going to 2 or 3F and just use less powder. In the 12ga with 1oz of shot I use 70grs of 3F. If using 2f it's 80grs. I sometimes shoot 100 to 150 shells in one day of smoke at a SC's event and to later clean the barrels I use two buckets of hot water, one soapy and one clean. First I pour water down the barrels, then a tornado brush is used to loosen the crud, then wet patches on a jag in the soapy water. Then patches down the barrels in clean water. Next a couple patches to dry, then one soaked with WD-40. A final patch with oil. I also spray the extractors with WD-40 to displace any water, and then oil. It sounds like it takes a while but in about 10 minutes the job is done. The part of my basement I use for reloading and a small shop has a drain in the floor so it's easy to get rid of the dirty water.
