The Parker Gun 1895 Showroom Catalog

I have a Parker Brothers, 1895 Showroom Catalog by Larry L. Baer

There was a limited 500 edition reproduced in it's original form from the only copy known to exist. It is numbered (#399) and initialed by the author. It is in very good condition.

Does anyone know the best place to sell this book?
Thank you!

Marty Kohler 12-30-2016 02:17 PM

Hello Joe....welcome.... What do you require?

George M. Purtill 12-30-2016 03:18 PM

this is a very good place to sell it but you must join the PGCA first.
A good investment.

Brian Dudley 12-30-2016 04:32 PM

A few have sold on Ebay in the past few years. As i recall, i think around $300 seems to the going rate on them.

joseph kralovic 12-30-2016 05:59 PM

do you know if the ones that sold on ebay were signed & numbered? I don't recall seeing any that were.

Jeff Kuss 12-30-2016 06:47 PM

The 500 are all signed and numbered. Brian is right on in the average price range.

joseph kralovic 12-30-2016 06:51 PM

Thanks Jeff.

I have one, a gift from a generous PGCA member, and it is neither signed, nor numbered. Perhaps it is an excellent forgery, which calls into question the generosity of the aforementioned PGCA member.

joseph kralovic 12-30-2016 09:25 PM

The number is located on the inside front cover on the short section of the cover. It is embedded in it, but very hard to see. The initials are easily noticed in blue ink.

Jeff Kuss 12-30-2016 10:10 PM

I have never seen one that is not numbered. I have two right now and have sold a couple over the years.

Wayne Owens 12-30-2016 11:00 PM

I also have one that is not numbered or signed.

Jeff, I took mine apart, and there is no evidence of ever being impressed with a number, nor has there ever been any writing on it.

Jeff Kuss 12-31-2016 06:55 AM

Interesting. They may have been overruns that got sold or a special issue.

Dean Romig 12-31-2016 08:25 AM

I'll have to find mine and look for those...

Same here Dean, My 1934 Salesmans portfolio is numbered with a a letter attached I believe, Gary

Gary Carmichael Sr 01-01-2017 11:55 AM

Alright, The 1895 showroom catalogue is signed, The number is 234 stamped on the inside cover of the leatherette about 1/2 inch from the edge of the inside front cover, with the initials LLB in blue ink, The 1934 catalogue is number 94 last page with instructions to return to Remington, also a letter, Gary

Bob Kimble 01-01-2017 08:05 PM

Mine isn't signed or numbered. Ordered early on so it shouldn't have been an over-run. If I remember correctly, signed and numbered copies were an extra cost but only 500 copies overall.

George M. Purtill 01-02-2017 01:11 PM

Bob is correct.

Dave Suponski 01-02-2017 02:56 PM

Bob who?

In May of 2013 I was emailing with Larry as I had bought some stuff from him on GunBroker.
There were only 500 1895 catalogs printed- that's it. 500. The numbered ones went with numbered book sets that were put out at the same time. If you have an 1895 catalog that is numbered, it has probably been separated from its book set.
I had 3. One was numbered, two were not. Edgar now has one of the un-numbered ones.

Gary Carmichael Sr 01-03-2017 09:54 AM

So Baers books were vol 1 and vol 2 and a version that was condensed to include both volumes I, and 2 I have all 3 will check to see if any are numbered, Gary

It looked as if he was fishing to sell the catalog and other books without being a member. That was my take on it.

Bill Murphy 01-03-2017 06:55 PM

Now I recall that Larry Baer embossed numbers on his books when the customer paid for all three books on his initial order. I still have my paperwork and will confirm that.

Dean Romig 01-03-2017 08:33 PM

Neither of my Vol I or Vol II are signed or are numbered.
I still haven't located my salesman's book... I know it's around here someplace.

George M. Purtill 01-03-2017 09:35 PM

As I recall the numbered book sets had the same type of cover material. But I am very old and don't remember so much.

Dean Romig 01-03-2017 09:38 PM

Mine are completely different.
Vol I is smaller and lighter in color and Vol II is dark brown leather grain.

Jeff,

I was on the forum and followed the dicussion regarding the Baer reprint. I spoke to Larry several years ago at Vegas regarding

unnumbered books, and he told me " at some point I lost track of what number I was on, so I did not number the remaining copies".

I currently have 2 copies that are not numbered, along with a couple of volume 2"s also not numbered. So, straight from the author,

I believe it to be true!! I am NOT very computer savvy, and do not know how to respond on the forum, hence this message to you.

If you will pass this info on as neccessary, I would appreciate it .

Thank You,

Ed Parker

Volumes 1,2 and the 1895 Showroom Catalog.

Dean Romig 02-11-2017 06:00 PM

I guess he really did lose count if he numbered three different ones with 455.

George M. Purtill 02-11-2017 10:07 PM

That's a hoot.

When Remington was building the 3200, they offered a "1 of 1,000" series of skeet and trap guns. The Chair of Remington got the #1 set, and a Board member who was the Controller of AT&T got the # 2 set. Walking thru Remington's museum, he saw a set of the 3200's in the case which were also numbered #2. He directed the company to destroy the museum set of #2 guns. My Dad got the #3 set. I still have them
