Good thing I had a Big Gun

I had a good hunt yesterday afternoon. Glad I brought my NH 10 gauge, this 12 1/2 pound bruiser was the first bird of the day. I ended the day with three geese, a Black Duck and a Greenhead.

A big gun for a big bird. It worked.

Dean Romig 12-29-2016 01:33 PM

Wow! Great bird Pete!

You sure chose the PGG Pete.

Pete,

That's cheating using a Parker 10 gauge! It makes it too easy... :)

Good shooting,
Mark

Perfect Goose Gun, maybe?

Rick Losey 12-29-2016 02:31 PM

Parker Goose Gun

Dean Romig 12-29-2016 02:35 PM

That works well too Rick. Though I was thinking 'Perfect.'

From the look on the goose's face he was proud to meet his end by a Parker 10.

The last super sized goose I cooked was so tough you couldn't cut the gravy with a knife

2 7/8" gun built in 1893. Not a big load by any means but very effective, 1 1/4 ounce of bismuth #4 pushed along with Green Dot. However Scott and I refer to them as "old" 4's vs. new fours. The old Bismuth cartridge company changed something at one point in time and their #4's got smaller. So that I know the difference in the field I write #3 on the over shot card in a Federal hull or I load them in Remington green hulls so I know it's the larger number #4 pellet.

Big guns are for big birds. Some folks don't seem to understand it....

Pete,

I don't see that Green Dot Bismuth load on the spreadsheet. Would you mind sharing it? I would like to try it in my 1890 NH.

Thanks.

I had a nice day with the big gun again today. Four shots for two Greenheads, a Hen and a Black. A beautiful day in NH for early January too. Mid forties temperature, partly cloudy, light wind, it don't get much better than that this time of year. River was open, only had to chase one decoy being dragged out by ice. Ate my lunch while waiting for the water to come back so I could go back to the ramp.
