the "can this be fixed" lifter 12ga

Well I know some said walk away and some said run away, but I think I got it cheap enough to bring it back to a safe shooter. The stock has a couple repairs and may have been refinished at some point. It has mismatched hammers also. Bores are fair. Lock up is tight.

What Dean said!

get that stock repaired and you will have a great shooter and a nice gun...what type of barrel steel is she made with...charlie

Dean Romig 12-20-2016 05:49 PM

Have you been able to determine who E.Bridges was?

Looks like hot lead was poured into the hole in the stock behind the butt plate.

it maybe lead. It wieghs right at 10Lbs. I have not been able to find out who E. Bridges is. The shotgun came to me from New York. My mothers maiden name was Bridges but I doubt there is any relation.

You know what is very odd...? The name stamps on your gun on the water table and the barrel flats. I once owned another early lifter that also had a name stamped on it in the same exact way, in the same locations and in the same font even. Different name. But same in every other way.

A real strange coincidence.

Rob Marshall 12-20-2016 11:32 PM

I wonder if some retailer offered stamping your name on the barrels and water table free with the purchase of the shotgun?

Or a hunt club

Not surprised

Nice gun! I'm wondering how a 2 frame gun can weigh 10 pounds?

I have a PH 12 on a 2 frame that comes close - if they threw some lead in the stock with very heavy barrels and weight can rack up pretty quick.

Mike Franzen 12-22-2016 10:45 AM

Just seems really heavy. I have a 2 frame hammer gun with 28" bbls that's just over 8 pounds. Interesting gun for sure.

Rob Marshall 12-22-2016 11:00 AM

I'm going to weigh it on my shipping scales tomorrow. I have never heard of pouring lead in the stock. I'm guessing to lessen the recoil? I ordered the letter for it a couple of week ago.

Dean Romig 12-22-2016 11:44 AM

I have an uncut set of 2-frame, 30", 10 gauge Damascus barrels that are stamped 5 lbs., 11 oz. and are very thick walled. I have fitted them to my 2-frame DH PG with a LOP of 14 1/4" and the balance point is about 3 1/2" in front of the hinge pin.

Or to improve the balance due to the gun being barrel heavy

Mike Franzen 12-22-2016 01:39 PM

4-6 is the unstruck bbl weight. I can't remember what mine are.

Rob Marshall 12-23-2016 08:19 AM

I weighed it this morning on my shipping scales and it only reads 8.9Lbs. Barrels and forearm 4.4Lbs and the action and butt stock 4.5Lbs. It shoulders and points really nice.

Rob Marshall 12-23-2016 11:16 AM

I think I need to find a finer set of scales to weigh it on. My shipping scales are for weighing pallets. The letter that Mr. Bishop was so nice to email me this morning shows 8 pounds 11 ounces. It really feels heavier than 9Lbs.
