Parker Gun Club Patch.....
2 Attachment(s)
I'd designed this jacket patch as a go with to the shooting sweaters currently under construction. It's chainstitched on wool felt just like the old style gun club patches. I used Parker Gun Club (which actually was a real club at one time) so as not to get into any copyright infringement or problems with the PGCA.
This is a prototype but I don't think I'd change anything. I don't have it in hand yet, it's supposedly in the mail to me as of yesterday. The guy I contracted to do it, and produce the full order, has now said he doesn't want to do them. He doesn't have time, he's too backed up to do small projects, etc etc. It also took forever to get just this one. I think it was 10 months from initial contact to a few days ago when he sent this photograph, so I'd be a little hesitant to use him anyway. So, as of right now, I don't have a manufacturer. If I go to the trouble to find someone else, would anybody else want one anyway? They would be expensive, around $100 each plus shipping. The embroidery is done by machine, the machines are all 75 or 100 years old. It's oriented by hand and is quite an art to do and do right. This guy was my choice, he's the best I could find. But, there are a few others who still do it who I could give a try at a prototype and see what they're capable of. They're all in the USA so that's a plus as well. |
Destry,
Sign me up for one. John |
P.S. You don't have to be a sweater buyer to get one.
|
Damn nice, very very pretty, but awful expensive. No offence but don't be a Trump. Try overseas for same quality and reduced cost.
P.s. Is the font the same type that is used on either parker guns or somewhere in the advertising? |
If I thought I had to get them produced overseas I wouldn't bother with the project.
|
P.S. This is also a not for profit venture, same as with the sweaters.

Sign me up for one, maybe two David |
Destry: I'm a Trumpster so sign me up for one. Thomas

I've had several messages from folks offering the names of patch manufacturers and I certainly appreciate the attempts at help.
My whole idea was to create something that wouldn't have been out of place on a shooting jacket in the 1930's. And of course have it made here in the USA. Yes we could get them done in China on a computer oriented embroidery machine but then it would just be another patch, not something special to wear and be proud of. I've had enough responses to warrant looking into another maker. Once I've got the prototype in hand I'll see what I can come up with. |
Destry, do you know the physical dimensions of the patch?
|
My order was 10 inches across. We'll see....
|
I'd be in for at least one.
|
I've contacted another maker, waiting to hear back.

Destry, I sent you a PM to give you another source. Let me know if you received it and how you got along with my friend.
|
Is she a chainstitch embroiderer? It's a pretty special skill set, not just having the machine, but having the eye to orient everything completly by hand.
|
Just wanted to put in my two cents and let you know that you did an excellent job. Great looking patch that appears to be period correct. Best of luck in getting your project done.

Thank you sir.

I bought three sweaters but I only need one patch. Spousal Unit and the Urchin just wanted the cool sweater and don't want the patch.
|
Destry ,unfortunately not in my budget - but these are really ,really nice and look exceptionally well done your effort in these things is to be commended
|
Patch came in today, it's actually 12 inches across, absolutely stunning. Wish this guy was willing to do the full order.
I've contacted two other folks who do this kind of work. No response as of yet, I'll keep everybody posted. DLH |
Update: This is happening, I'll get it all set up after the new year.
|
Destry,
Did anything ever come about with this? Thanks. |
Guy who I had lined up to make them started doing corporate work and is now officially too busy. I've gotten a sample from another maker but it wasn't good enough quality to warrant the cost and I returned it. I need to get back on this, there are other people out there who do this.

Destry:
Count me in as well. Thanks ! |
In our current situation of enforced leisure I have done heavy research into another possible manufacturer of these and believe I have found someone. The good news is they will be cheaper! In the $65 range rather than the $100 from the first fella. The bad news is the company is currently closed down due to the pandemic. I'm in conversation with the owner and am sending out the original for them to look at and produce a prototype as soon as they reopen. I'm actually stunned I found someone else, nobody makes patches by hand this way anymore hardly. Hopefully their work is as good as the first. The minimum order will be 12 pieces to get this lower price. If we can get that many folks interested we'll move forward.

I'm still in. Thanks!
|
Me too.

Patch
I will be all in.

Nine to Go!

Good to see David Fishley was sent on vacation.
. |
I have no idea who David Fishley is or what he might have to do with this project.
|
Page 1 - it was a long time ago.
I apologize for going OT on your patch thread. I just thought what he posted was untoward and uncalled-for. . |
Destry. I am in as well.
