2 Frame DHE 20ga at Tulsa
Did anyone else see the 32" 2 Frame 20ga DHE at Tulsa? Neat gun!
|
sounds like a great gun-
the Widgeon Club guns were 1 frames - Right? |
don t it amaze you at what turns up in the parker world from time too time...charlie
|
Good Morning Charlie, great to see your posts again!
|
Parkers were special ordered by weight. The frame size was determined by Parker Brothers and could be two or more frame sizes on a heavy 20 gauge. I'm not sure all the Widgeon Club guns were made on the same frame size. Josh, buy that gun.

One would suppose the appeal of a 2-frame 20 today is its rarity, what do suppose the appeal of one of these was back in the day when they could be ordered new?

The gun is a real restoration prospect - blued Frame and custom stocks. It has good barrels. If someone is willing to invest the time and effort to do a Turnbull restore they will have a hell of a rare gun.
|
and what were they asking for the basket case?
|
Josh, Who had it? PM me please.
|
Any info on this gun/ seller/ etc would be greatly appreciated.

My 2 frame 30" 20ga Prince of Wales grip has 3" chambers. 1000 Serial numbers before the Widgeon guns. Note they were sporting men and it was not sport to shoot ducks anymore with big bores.

At the time the Widgeon Duck Club guns were ordered, there was much media talk of small bores for the true expert sportsman and of course the manufacturers joined in touting supposed benefits. For the wealthy sportsman in a wealthy club, it became a status symbol demonstrating his expertise. Of course a 10 gauge would have produced more waterfowl, that was not the point. Same with any kind of status symbol. |
Supposedly the Widgeon club had an abundance of ducks so using a modern (circa 1915) big bore was considered unsporting to the sportsman of the day. So the evolution of the big boomer small bore (3" 20 ga).
