Bis-Maxx Sale
Cabela's is running a clearance sale in their bargain cave on non-toxic bis-maxx, box of ten for around two bucks a shell. They also where having $5.00 shipping over $150 dollars. Cabela's I hear is going to carry RST in the future.
|
If the RST story is true, congratulations to our good friends Alex Papp and Morris Baker at RST.
|
The price for RST ammo whether purchased from RST direct or from Albert and Laura at Classic Upland Supply Co. is the same.
I find myself wondering what the price will be from Cabala's |
If this is true and Alex and Morris have contracted with Cabelas I think an expansion would be on the horizon....:)
|
I think Bis-Maxx has gone out of business.

If RST has indeed contracted with Cabelas then a major expansion at RST will be required IMHO.
I'll see Morris and Alex this weekend maybe they will shed some light on this rumor. |
I've got my order in, those #4's put those ditch parrots down hard. I use 6's on preserve birds. I hope it does'nt get to the point where we have to hunt ruffs with no-tox. Could get costly! More misses than hits at $3 apiece

If it ever comes to that I'll just start shooting blanks. It's not like I need to kill them anyway. Just being out there doing it is what excites me. |

Well I tell you, my girls Ryman and llewellen setters, would not be happy with a bang and not an occasional reward. For that matter nor would I or my wife, as we enjoy a modest harvest and an enjoyable meal of the king of gamebirds. If people don't like that, they better re-evaulate the reason they even use Parkers, they were made to hunt with, not be safe queens.

It's a rare thing to be able to watch someone who can shoot instinctively. To be able to be with Dave as he centers his pa'tridge and kills it with authority in the thick scrub apple as it twists and thunders away in a valiant attempt at freedom.... is a treat indeed!
Clay targets sometimes allow us too much time to think about the shot :bigbye: |
I'm with RJ, hunting is killing and if we don't kill occasionally while out hunting we'd might as well take up golf.

Like the explosion in the boarding house-
"rumors/roomers went a flyin'- I was in attendance at the Yooper this past Fri-Sat-Sun (great way to spend a Father's Day weekend- super event. On Friday I asked both Alex and Jill about this Cabelas rumor- they both confirmed what I suspected- Bunkum- No such deal, and Alex likes to stay direct to customers- with Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Bass Masters Pro Shop, other big box retailers, you lose that customer direct base--
Morris Baker wasn't there- sadly, as we had shared some phone chats about our other mutual love of varmint hunting (sniper style on woodchucks with accurate rifles) and also crow hunting- Apparently some last minute details kept him at home-- Next year I hope-- I used Rem green 12 reloads for my practice shooting, and RST orange 2.5 1 oz. No. 8's for the competition-we are lucky to have RST and the other small shell loading firms (like New Era) supporting our events--:bigbye: |
At the Yooper I shot a practice round of Clays with a 16 gauge Fox CE (Sorry Parker guys. I did however shoot the event with my DH 10) using RST 7/8 oz shells. The little Fox has NO chokes at all due to the barrels being professionally cut to 22". So there I was with my sawed off shotgun enduring a few hostile glances from some of the Parker Boys. But, at luck would have it, those RST shells performed flawlessly and cleanly broke clay targets from close in to perhaps 40 yards!
Although I have a new MEC Grabber in 16 gauge waiting to be set up I purchased a half-flat of those RST loads just in case. I'll be very lucky if I will be able to match the performance I experianced in shooting Alex and Jill's pet loads! Mark |
Mark,
I have two little 16s, a VH & a PH that I reload for. I have not been able to spring for a grabber yet, but found a 600, jr on ebay. I don't know if its the gun or the reloads, however out of all the wads and loads I've tried the 7/8 oz load in a DR wad has been unbelievable. I was using PB powder, but it was so expensive that I've gone to International Clays. I can match RST's pressure and velocity. I have never been able to match RST's preformance. They are soft on the shoulder and death to bird feathered or clay. Harry |
Harry,What is your 16 gauge load? Do you have one for 1oz.? I just switched to PB from SR7625. It was $8.00 a lb. cheaper than SR 7625 ! I am thinking about 17.5 grains.
|
David,
My 7/8 oz load: WW X-Pert Hull WW 209 primer 15.8 gr International Clays DR 16 wad 1150 fps 6200 psi Same as above with 17.4 PB yields 1150 fps @ 5900 psi Let me know what hull etc you use and I will look in the 16 gauge low pressure data. Harry |
Harry,I use the Remington black hull with either R-16 1 oz. wad or the SP-16 wad for my spreader loads. Thanks Again Harry
|
Dave,
A check of the spread sheet found no 1 oz loads for the black Rem hull and PB. They did have some 7/8 oz loads with the R16 wad and the black hull: Fed 209A primer 18.0 gr PB R16 wad 7/8 oz shot 9000 psi 1230 fps Same as above with Rem STS primer = 7800 psi @ 1190 fps Harry |
Thanks Harry,I think I will load up some with 17.5 grains of PB with Winchester primers and see how they pattern and shoot.
|
Dave,
I just checked "Handloaders Guide" by DuPont and it has 1oz loads listed unlike the new guide by IMR that only list 1 1/8 oz loads. Rem Express (fiber base wad) CCI 157 primer 18.5 gr PB R16 wad 1 oz shot 1175 fps 8400 LUP Fed Hi-Power WW209 18.5 PB R16 1 oz 1180 fps 7600 LUP WW CF Upland & Super-X WW209 18.5 PB R16 1 oz 1175 fps 8000 LUP Harry |
Thanks alot Harry! I know this has been covered before. What is the conversion from LUP to PSI? Anybody know?
|
Dave,
I don't think there is a conversion in any of the pressures test (CUP, LUP, PSI, TONS). Right or wrong I see PSI pressures up to 12000 and LUP up to or within a 1000 of PSI. So, if I see a LUP pressure at 10000 I know it is near MAX as 12000 PSI is for shotgun shells. Likewise, 8000 PSI being about all I want to run through a Damascus barrel I conclude that 8000 LUP to be close enough. Hope we don't blow anything up. Harry |
