Looking at a CHE-16 thoughts?
I have found a good looking CHE-16 for sale on GI # 100740973 Take a look and give me your thoughts. I plan to call today about the gun specs. thanks all SXS Ohio....bird season is close....(-:

Wood is refinished. Checkering not re-cut when it likely should have been if the wood was finished. Buttplate (and likely guard) have been reblued. What is left of the case colors is hard to tell if they look correct or not.
I would be curious as to what others have to say about the engraving. Those are the most realistic looking dogs (as far as being dimentional) that i have ever seen on a Parker. And they do not quite look like factory work. And the "hazy lines" in the sky areas of the game scenes also do not look like any treatment normally done on Parkers. And some of the scroll looks chased out and not as dimensional as it should. I suspect a lot of engraving was re-cut on this gun at one time. ??? Thoughts? |
Very nice engraving, but I suspect it is not Parker. If it was all original that would be a fantastic price ,but I think the price reflects what the gun is. The last two all original CHE 16's that went through Julia were $25K +.

I have to agree with Brian. I really like the engraving, but it doesn't look Parker. The dogs
look more life like than you usually see in parker engraving. |
It looks like the engraving has been recut and embellished in the process. I've not seen Parker use digits like the serial number on the tang before.
|
I'm certainly no expert on engraving but nothing looks right about that engraving.
|
Don't see that # in the serialization book. The engraving and the boarder of the checkering on the wrist, don't look correct?
Could this one be an Upgrade? |
|
I saw this gun there is no rib marking either would this be a Remington gun
|
It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be a DelGrego - Runge upgrade. For a CHE in the 1927-28 era there are just too many things that don't ring true to be an original CHE. We will probably never know for sure but it may have been a rebarreled, restocked, reengraved VHE....
Also, the position of the quail's wings on the floor plate, the posture of the dogs and their leg position, the straight front leg always on the viewer's side with the cocked leg always on the off side (all typical 'Runge-style'). The case color in the forend latch finger recess looks very much 'cyanide' and not so much bone-charcoal. The drop points and 'nose of the comb' suggest a Remingtonesque style. JMHO . |
I saw this gun last week in Jaquas own listing. That clearly indicated that this gun is an upgrade.
|
Well, it looks like an uograde turned into a stock that might have been refinished.
|
Have you ever done something that wakes you up at night? I sold a CHE 16 with 28" barrels, straight stock, DT, SSBP for $6,000 about 30 years ago.
|
We all have those nightmares!

About 12 + years ago Jack Plugiski ( sp)
At the antique arms show in LAS VEGAS HAD a 20 ChE, that had a stock extension About 1.5 inches long, look awful and his price $8500. Gun looked good, fit well, worked fine And the man in his comments said he wanted it gone. I had the price in mind that I would pay and he said would Sell for my number. I passed and have regretted it Every time I see a c grade 20, thinking it was the gun I passed on, but now sto c k fixed. I have made many Parker Mistakes |

If Jaquas still has the gun, my experience with them over 35 years is that they very rarely negotiate. They set a price and stick to it.
|
In my experience with Jaqua's, if the gun is consigned to them, they will contact the seller if a serious offer is made. In my opinion, the price they put on guns which they own is generally a fair price
|
I agree with you BIG D! That better reflects their business style. I've done a lot of business with them over the years and find them very fair.
|
They have added some more pictures on the GI site of the barrels and water table !
|
I have never seen a water table without patent date stamps on the upper prong. Am I missing something, or has this water table possibly been annealed, filled in, reground, and re-stamped with the C grade markings? Seems like a lot of work, but Just wondering.
|
Anything is possible as long as the serial number isn't altered in any way.
. |
Went and looked at this gun again today , I found it to be signed by someone on the edge of the trigger plate it is hard to read but if someone new what they were looking at with a loop it may help with the story behind this gun.
|
And the picture you took of the signature is forthcoming??
. |
I didnt take a picture with my phone but one of employees did to see if we could bring it up better I will call him tomorrow to see if he can add it to GI listing .
|
The photo of the signing is listed on GI hard to make out but its there
|
Enlarging the picture I can make out the word REPRODUCTION. Can't make heads or tails of the rest in the picture shown.

CHE 16
About 8 years ago I traded a CHE 16gauge with 28" bernard barrels and an extra set of Acme 28" barrels, for a very high condition Parker in 12 gauge! I am happy and I think the member on this board that has the little 16 is happy! Alls well that ends well they say! Gary

As they say "it is what it is". So now that it's revealed to be an upgrade but still a nice hunting/shooter make an offer of what your willing to pay and go from there. You won't find a better/nicer gun in the $10-12K range.
We have all sold guns we regret but $6K for a gun 30 years ago was a lot of money then for a gun. |
