Interesting GH floor plate
 

Saw this one today and found it to be interesting, and not a design I have seen before on floor plates of Gs. I am almost curious if it was polished off and reengraved. Its nice, but just doesn't look like the engraving I would expect on a 126xxx GH.

I think it has been embleished.

That game scene is original Meriden/Parker but as Brian pointed out, the surrounding heavy-handed scroll is a more recent embellishment.

The engraving on the floor plate of the Gunbroker gun is similar to the one in this thread but it is not the same gun. If you compare carefully you will see differences.

The picture I posted is from a gun on gunbroker, my mistake I had thought it was the same number. The game scene is,obviously the samw, but it was the engraving around the circle I found surprising

I think there were a number of different variations of the GH circle. This one is in the 60K range.

I'm beginning to suspect the engraving on these guns was not done by a computer controlled engraving machine. This sort of variation is just one piece of evidence. As barbaric as it sounds, it seems as though these guns were engraved by some sort of sharp metal object, driven by a striking surface at the end of a stick, all powered and guided by an organic organism.

While there is obvious variation from one gun to the next, I still agree with what Brian suggested that the original gun on this thread is upgraded in some way and didn't come from the factory in that condition.

The engraving around the circle doesn't even resemble the same style, depth, or sharpness that the game scene within the circle has. While there is variation from gun to gun, the circle on that gun seems to be a complete departure in style.

Really? I am very surprised you would suggest such a thing! I am also very surprised that these variations would be accepted in quality control, sort of like fender alignment on a 70 Chevy.

Hey, I'll tell ya...I work for a company that has been in business since 1891. The scariest thing of all is for a customer to tell me 'we want an exact duplicate of what we already have....'

I tell them, "It'll be close...."

The most unique GH trigger plate engraving i have seen was the birds inside of a rectangular framed ribbon motif. With pointed top and bottom. A little hard to explain. I wish i had a photo of it.

This GH circa 1900 is similar, with a little extra. Friday gun??

I bet there were plenty of times Parker added a bit extra to a gun knowing it was going to someone of importance. And by importance I mean stuff like, "Do an extra good job an Mr. Wallace's GH, now. He's been delivering our milk for over 15 years." And I bet it could have been nicer wood as well as engraving.

I'd say just different engraver or day of the week. An 1889 vintage --
