Got fields planted and coming in great.Looks like we'll get a good crop with little rain so far this summer.Stocked up on ammo and guns waiting patiently for their next opportunity.
But I am conflicted there is a varmint that is hitting the fields daily both am and pm.

Florida deer season in our area is over a month away.Believe it or not just a few miles away(less than 10)deer season opens in a couple weeks.

Bob , fields look great . Can't wait , have a couple of new guns to try out .

Dean Romig 07-19-2016 08:01 AM

"Crop damage" would seem to be a reasonable reason to eliminate the problem. Does Florida allow you to protect your crop?

Florida?I thought that was God given right to put meat on the table and protect crops that are there to draw other game in.
Seriously I don't worry to much about the deer. They will mellow out soon after the crop gets a little tall. There's enough for everyone out there.
But come Sept. look out.

Same here Mark, looks like its going to be good.Lots of birds around now and got some new additions on the field for convenience.

Still interested in tree ducks should things look positive.

Bob Hayes 07-21-2016 07:27 AM

They're all over the place right now.Like I said before hangout all over the ranch all summer then sometime in Oct. they move.Still around but very shy and roost in different location.
Never have been able to figure them out.

In these parts, people have very elaborate fences to keep the deer out. Without fences in some areas, there would be no crops for the doves to eat.

Bob Hayes 07-21-2016 01:10 PM

You can put fences up here for the deer but the hogs don't really care for the fence.
In other words the hogs will go thru anything you put up.There is not a fence man can build that will hold a hog.
Luckily the number of deer per acre is not that high down here.
But hogs are another thing.

Mills Morrison 07-21-2016 01:30 PM

Fortunately, the places I hunt don't have hog problems. They are a real menace in places where they are prevalent.

Dean Romig 07-21-2016 02:53 PM

You must eat a lot of pork Bob - I certainly would with that many around.

Staples of our diet seems like. But luckily we have a good wild quail population, snipe, dove, duck and back to the deer.So we balance the diet out.
