Sporting Clays at Scarborough Fish & Game Sunday July 10

The NH boys are hosting again a mid summer shoot at Scarborough Fish & Game in Maine on Sunday July 10. This has always been a fun shoot and get together and if you have this date open, come join us to grind up some clay birds, food, and guns. www.scarfg.org/

Shooting starts at 10 AM. The price is $37 dollars for 100 targets. We usually roll in the parking lot around 9:30 or so. If you are planning on attending, reply in the thread to let us know. Finding us in the parking lot will not be difficult. Just look for a white Ford pickup truck with Mossy Oak trim with NH plates. We will be all congregating there before going out on the course.

After the shoot we will get lunch at Portland Pie Company and then head over to Cabella's to check out the gun room.

Rain Date: Important! As the date gets closer, please check this thread for updates. Shooting on this course is weather permitting. If there is a threat of rain, we will postpone and reschedule July 24 which is also on a Sunday. We will post a final update Saturday night before the shoot if it is still a go or not.

Looking forward to maybe seeing a few more new faces this year.

allan.mclane 06-12-2016 08:43 AM

I'll be driving up from down east and looking forward to seeing you all there.

Dean Romig 06-12-2016 09:03 AM

I hope to be there too... Do you think they'll be open this time?

Have you seen the Elsie Specialty Grade VR, BTFE trap gun at Cabelas?

Last year we had quite a scramble didn't we Dean when there was a little bit of drizzle and no one opened up the course. All was not lost and we did end up shooting a little further north from where we were. As for the Elsie, I haven't seen it but hopefully it's still there!

I recommend anyone interested in joining us is to just reply to this thread if you may plan on attending. Subscribing to this thread you will get email updates to your post. This way you'll get updates to your email if you can't log online.

Dean Romig 06-12-2016 07:46 PM

I'll probably be coming down from my place on the lake west of Augusta - only an hour's drive. It should be very do-able - I'm looking forward to shooting with with you gents again.

It's about the same as my drive, 3.5 hrs... you can do it!

Dean Romig 06-13-2016 07:45 AM

Shorter than your drive to Hausmann's.

See you all ther...looking forward to it again!

NH Boyz Scarborough Fun Shoot rescheduled Sunday July 24th

It looks like we’re going to have to cancel this one. I've been checking extended weather forecasts this past week and it didn't look too promising. I wanted to wait for this morning to get a better accurate weather forecast and it says rain early Sunday morning then clearing but not until mid afternoon.

Rain date for the NH Boyz Scarborough Fun Shoot is Sunday July 24th. I checked again on the Scarborough Fish and Game website and it is indeed open for the public on the 24th.

http://www.scarfg.org/twiki/bin/view/

Hopefully on this date the weather cooperates and more people who wanted to make the trip up to Maine can join us the 24th.

Craig Larter 07-11-2016 04:45 PM

Frank I will be in Portsmouth for a decoy auction so I will attend the shoot on the 24th. Craig Larter

Weather outlook for this Sunday is looking pretty nice...

Dean Romig 07-20-2016 08:55 AM

I'll be there and I know Frank, Scott, and Pete will be there but for curiosity's sake, who else is planning to be at Scarborough on Sunday?

I hope a bunch of PGCA folks will be there too.

Craig Larter 07-20-2016 04:54 PM

I am a definite yes. Looking forward to seeing you guys. Craig Larter

WilliamJanelle 07-20-2016 08:26 PM

Dean, I think shooting starts at 10?? we should be there around 9:30

Dean Romig 07-22-2016 12:37 PM

Thanks - I'll take a swim before driving down.

.

edgarspencer 07-22-2016 04:47 PM

Since I am neither traveling to or from Maine, I'll have to pass on it.
Three and half hours up, and three and a half hours back is too much when it's predicted to be 90+ on a Sunday.

George M. Purtill 07-22-2016 08:19 PM

I would love to be their with my NH boys but the beach weather will be great on the Cape. Shoot well my friends. Sorry I will miss seeing Mr Larter.

bob weeman 07-23-2016 07:51 AM

I will see you all there tomorrow.

Dean Romig 07-24-2016 06:23 AM

Just went for my swim. The silence is deafening here this morning. The lake surface is like glass and my only company is a few loons and a pod of largemouth bass cruising by. It's a "great day in the morning" already.

The 2016 NH Boyz Scarborough Fun shoot is in the books and we all had a fantastic time.

The weather couldn't be any nicer. It was sunny & HOT but the majority of the shooting stations on the course is protected with shade. Out of the sixteen shooting stations, just four were in the sun. The shade and an occasional following cool breeze throughout the day brought some nice relief from the hot rays of the sun.

I have to hand it to the people at the Scarborough Fish and Game. This is a really nice course to shoot. You can't beat the price for a 100 targets for $37 bucks. No misfires, broken machines, dead batteries, broken callers... everything WORKED unlike a place called Haus_ _ _ _ _...... Sixteen total stations and nice variety of different target presentations at each station. As you will see in the pictures they are pretty creative in making things interesting. High tower shots, incoming and over the head outgoing shots, clays bouncing off trampolines, and some contraption that I'm not sure what it is called but I guess it's a rabbit trap over head 25 feet and what looks like an upside down toboggan. This was a report pair and the first clay flew down and the second shot was an teal shot.

Attendies this year were Scott Kittredge, Billy Janelle, Pete Lester, Dean Romig, Bob Weeman, Allan McLane, Erick Dorr, and special guest from Upstate NY Craig Larter. Event coordinator was Frank Cronin :bigbye:

But the big story of the day is Billy Janelle who came from out of no where and took HIGH GUN for the day. :shock:The NY Boyz and myself may take things a little seriously sometimes whether it's shooting skeet, trap, sporting clays, and even in the field. But in the end we just like to bust each other's chops and have a good time. That's what it's all about. Billy began the day a little "off" but he was LIGHTS OUT  at the end. Congrats Bill!

Afterwards we ate at Portland Pie Company and checked out Cabella's. We mostly browsed and handled a few guns but none found a new home in NH, MA, VT, or NY.

Everyone likes to see pictures so here's a few from the day.

Had a great time with some good guys. Weather couldn't have been better. Thanks for the photo memories. To add to my list of things to remember when at the line I need to add, "Keep your mouth closed."

Great weather and a great time, a very nice course, 16 stations with varied and somewhat unusual target presentations that included a simo pair both hitting trampolines before you could take a shot. A rabbit that rolled behind a suspended curtain hitting an upside down toboggan and diving straight down to the ground. Great food and beer at Portland Pies followed by shopping trip to Cabelas. Good luck at the decoy auction today Craig!

Did anyone else notice the giant garden cart Bob Weeman is pushing, this is what you use when you take your entire gun collection out on the course lol.

......and now for the rest of the story.

Scott listening intently to Bill's advice on how to shoot better and improve his score. (PS. Frank, Bill did not come out of nowhere, he merely ended a 40 year slump lol).

Honorary membership as a NH Boy only gets Frank just so far.

What he said to me is" if Pete wins this I have to listen to it all the way home"
Bill did shoot great, and had a come from behind win. Remember" it's not a sprint ,it's a marathon ".:)
