Hausmann's Great Northeastern Side by Side Championship

Four, newbie side by side shooters, from Minnesota are planning on attending the Great Side by Side Championship at Hausmann's Hidden Hollow on June 4th. Three of us have attending before and our fourth, from Ely, Minnesota, will attend for his first time. The fellow from Ely wants to know what kind of weather to expect. People from Ely are still wearing their long underwear and he wonders if he should pack them. On a serious note...Does anyone know if Ernie Hausmann is planning the single barrel trap event that was such a success last year. I just want to know if I should pack a single barrel trap gun.
Thank you.
Mike

mike, hope to see you and the boys in PA :bigbye: scott

C Roger Giles 05-27-2010 06:38 PM

How about loading only one barrel If you do not have a single barrel ? After all it is just a one shot event.

Bill Murphy 05-27-2010 07:07 PM

I think the event is on the schedule. Does the new guy know about the NB initiation ceremony that requires less than long johns be worn during the ceremony?

Craig Larter 05-27-2010 07:29 PM

Are you the group from MN that brought the moon shine last year? My buddy had a pop with that group from Minnesota and was incoherent all the way back to Montrose!! Yeeha!!

Mike Koranda 05-27-2010 08:13 PM

Scott,
See you there!
Mike

Mike Koranda 05-27-2010 08:14 PM

Rog,
I'm sure that' not the idea! Last year it was a wobble trap that was quite a bit of trouble!
Mike

Mike Koranda 05-27-2010 08:16 PM

Craig,
We are the same bunch! The "moonshine" was actually Slivavitz, a very nice plum brandy! Do you want some more?

Rich Anderson 05-27-2010 10:24 PM

Mike you should definately go out and get a Parker SB trap gun. Save some "shine" for the boys from MI. see you in PA and at Dah U.P. shoot eh:bigbye:

Mike Koranda 05-27-2010 10:36 PM

Rick,
I look forward to seeing you in PA and the UP. I will bring plenty of shine.
Are you accomodations all in order for the UP Shoot?
Mike

Rich Anderson 05-27-2010 10:41 PM

Mike,
We are set for the U.P. Our group grew to 6 and Dave found a place along the river just north of the intersection to Crystal Falls.

C Roger Giles 05-27-2010 11:05 PM

Mike;

When I was stationed in Germany I had one, I say one drink of Slavavitz and never again, I swear it burnt half of my plumbing about beyond repair.

I have been looking at the weather for the Binghamton NY area via Intellicast.com. The long range forecast is for showers on Fri and Sat and chance of T-Storms Sunday. Temps mid to high 70's all three days.

John Dallas 05-28-2010 09:08 AM

Just came back from a trip to Croatia/Slovenia. Their trick with Slivowitz is to add a dollop of honey to it. Makes it go down 'way to smoothly.

Mike Koranda 05-28-2010 07:13 PM

Rick,
I'm looking forward to seeing you in the UP!
Mike

Mike Koranda 05-28-2010 07:14 PM

John,
I'm not sure I need anything to help the Slivavitz go down more smoothly!

Mike Koranda 05-28-2010 07:16 PM

Mr. Giles.
This Slivavitz is made by an old man in Hibbing, MN. It is not as strong as what you might have tried. I tried to light it but it wouldn't even burn. But it does burn a little on the way down!
Mike

Kevin McCormack 05-30-2010 06:35 PM

Mike, you will be proud to know that I have browbeaten my brother into coming with me - the one who put the 8 gauge dent in that bottle you brought last time! He's primed and looking forward to it (maybe you should bring a second bottle!!).

For the newbiesL OK; first off, let's get the spelling right - its Slivovitz, not 'Slivavitz, Slovovotz, Schlovivats' or any of that. Mike, is the guy from Hibbing Bob Dylan's father by any chance? Or maybe Charlize Theron's boyfiend from the movie "North Country'? (God, what she did for apre-ski leggins!!!) K

Mike Koranda 05-30-2010 10:07 PM

Kevin,
I'm looking forward to seeing you and your brow beaten brother. I will brin plenty of Slivovitz. I don't know of the man's heritage but most men from the Iron Range come from a questionable past.
I will see you in a couple of days.
Mike

A few more from my camera.

First though, it is only fitting that I show proof that Rich Anderson is a cookie thief - caught red-handed by Officer Frey!

Next is Dave Miles walking, Dave Suponski on the back of the cart, Rich Anderson seated and Danny Suponski at the throttle.... just before Danny pulled an outstanding wheelstand.

You all have no idea how difficult it was to stand on the back of that thing while Danny was in (mostly out of) control.

Deb Frey and Linda Murphy taking advantage of one of the only shady places in the parking meadow.

Bill, Scott, Pete, Robin, Mark Ouelette and Robin's nephew, Rick.

So.......how did everyone shoot? :duck:

Did anyone stay and shoot the Sunday program? If so how did that go, Scott, Bill and I left just as the rains were starting?

It seemed to me the targets on the large bore stations were tougher than years past and I noticed overall scores were higher for Friday and Saturday in the small bore classes.

Rich Anderson 06-07-2010 09:57 AM

Dave, Eric and I left Sunday am as the weather wasn't looking very good. I didn't check any scores.

Yes but did you manage to get away from there with the cookie bag again :)

Rumor has it the northeast members of the cookie baking squad instructed shoot officials to not post their scores from Friday and Sat so as not to embarrass the rest of us.

The cookies are the real prize there, my:bowdown: to their creator Mrs. Romig AKA Louise. The other great trophy was a wiskey glass liberated from a local eatery so I didn't have to drink my Jack daniels from a paper cup:eek:

I did not check the scoreboard....but there are rumors:duck:

Craig Smith 06-07-2010 11:09 AM

We always enjoy the flurry the most. We shot it with black powder this year.

Our barrels were screaming hot, but it was a blast...

Here is the photo of Suponski accepting his Scrapple from me. Dave, I hope you take a double dose of Lipitor prior to eating it. Please report on how you liked it. You won't hurt my feelings if you didn't like it. I think it's kind of an aquired taste.

Scrapple isn't my cup of tea however ShooFly pie is this side of heaven! I'll bring you some if your going to be at the Vintagers this year.

Pete,
There were a few good rounds shot in our group. Dave Miles shot very well as did our new friend Mark Ouellette but the best came Friday as cookie thief Rich Anderson posted a 41 or 42 in the 28 gage class. That was still high score the last time I looked but we will have to wait for the official posting to know if it held up.

As usual our Friday night strategy meeting in Anderson’s room had a devastating effect on our scoring ability Saturday and for many days to come.:knowbetter:

Sounds like a high cholesterol and sugar diet while shooting is the ticket. That's good shooting Rich, way to go!!!! In hindsight I wish I had brought a 20 this year to try the stations that were exclusive to small bores. Oh well live and learn.

From the sounds of it had I been at the Friday night stategy session I would probably still be in PA :rotf:

Dave Suponski 06-07-2010 02:58 PM

Chuck,Thanks again for the Scrapple(I think)Only problem is it went to Mass. in Deans cooler:knowbetter:But not to fear Chuck I am planning a visit to the Romigs this summer so I will pick it up then. Also as for the Shoefly pie goes you're on ! As far as our Friday night strategy meeting it was well.....you know.....:fg::cheers: :smiley7:

More Pics

Here is a picture of Bill Janelle shooting with Scott in the background. Bill almost got us all killed on the way home when his daughter called, he told her he didn't win but he came close. Scott was taking a drink when Bill's nose shot out and hit him in the back of the head. We crossed three lanes of traffic before Scott could regain control.

Robert,I apologize for not getting a chance to say "hello". When you guy's and gals were out shooting this round I was on the small bore course with the Michigan contingent...

Robert Rambler 06-07-2010 10:51 PM

No apology needed.
Just hope you had as much fun as we did!:D

Dean Romig 06-07-2010 11:06 PM

Great photos Robert! Thanks for showing those shots of the girls.

Mark Ouellette 06-08-2010 07:07 AM

For me it was great to meet all the PGCA members with whom I've traded thoughts on this and the Doublegunshop BBS forums.

I do need to apologize for not shooting and posting a hundred photos. Upon noticing many other cameras present and with the thought of humping my Big Friend Ten (BFT) and ammo over hill and dale I opted to leave my trusty Nikon in the car... It looks like Dean, Pete, Robert, Jent and others had my back on this one!

Respectfully,
Mark
