My Christmas PH
This little gem is unmolested but has seen service for sure. All screws appear unturned. Bores are mirror. 32" twist steel barrels ring true and twist pattern very visible, case colors only in very protected area, wood proud of metal and butt plate. Wood cosmetics pretty good given use and 1897 manufacture. Nice condition gutta percha butt. Locks up tight, with or without fore end in place. Found it in cyberspace and gave myself a Christmas present.
Took it out twice to chase pheasants. First time did not get a shot. Second time was new year's eve (rather go hunting than try to stay up to MN). I did have a nice flush and missed. There must have been a sudden, short-lived, gale force wind, as that rooster flew over some brush out of sight. I then heard my partner shoot and found he too suffered wind blown lead. Nice rooster left for seed but watch out next season. Happy New Year Jack http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7781 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7785 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7775 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7784 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7773 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7772 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7782 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7766 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7770 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7769 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7777 http://parkerguns.org/forums/picture...pictureid=7778 |
Nice score on that gun Jack!
Someday I'll own a PH or a PHE - preferably in 16 or 20 gauge. . |
Great gun! Love the wood on it. I actually prefer the Ps over the Gs for some odd reason.
|
Cyberspace guns are approached with trepidation but still.... The guy took it in on trade and wasn't interested to keep it. He did say if I was the least bit concerned about anything to ship it back - basically being out on shipping costs. I think that is pretty fair. To some, these are just old guns and what's the big deal. To others, they are investments. Everyone has their own ideas. For me, I find them "historical, functional works of art". Any that come into my possession get their day afield- some more than others. They all get to happily co-exist on display - no more steel tombs for me. Cheers, Jack

Nice PH, have to love those twist barrels. My first Parker was a PH and it became my Pheasant gun.
|
I always liked the PH or grade 1 the best. I've had quite a few over the years. Of the five Parkers I still own, two are Grade 1's.

Jack - nice gun !
Question: In your seventh picture, is there a fine hairline crack extending from the trigger guard screw into the checkering ? John |

I think the PH Parker's with twist barrels are one of the best values in vintage American SxS shotguns. An equally great value is the Fox early A grade. Beautiful Twist barrels, great wood and very well done engraving for prices that are many times less than VH guns of equal condition. Jack nice gun.

A nice little P grade 20 gauge is a wonderful gun. Congratulations on you first P grade 12 bore Jack! What frame size is it ?

Awesome! Jack, if you ever get to Fort Frances, gimme a holler. I am 100 miles south:cheers:

This one is on a 2 Frame. Never seen quite so many patent dates on one gun either.

P's in the rain
Jeff, Where do you find friends that will take off work to go hunting in the rain with you ?? It must be an Iowa thing, you have to be a bit crazy. The P on top is a nice light weight 12 on a 1 frame, very nice carrying gun. Mr. Day helped me locate it. Have to give a nice thank you to him. Mark

Mark - Tell you what, let's start this off right- You Bet!! You forgot the part about the 20 degree freezing rain. That makes it an Iowa thing. Truly memorable morning. You have to live here to understand.
